When restoring the body of my Bronco I painted the inside of the windshield hinge with POR15 (2 coats), topcoated with 2 coats of epoxy primer which was further coated with 3 coats of color. When I laid my new hinge seal in place I can't get the windshield to lay back far enough to line up with the top of the doors. The bottom of the windhsield lines up well with the door frames, but the top is too far away. I tried pulling back on the top, but things are starting to bend. I even measured the angle of the windshield frame and compared to my other Bronco and it is clearly not laying back far enough. When I remove the seal I can push the windshield back further (actually too far, so I need something in there). The new seal is about 1/8 inch thick, which is about twice the thickness I need. Could the numerous coats of paint add so much thickness that my new seal will be too thick? Anyone else run into this issue? Any ideas for a thinner seal or possibly something which will compress easier than rubber? I was thinking of laying some camper cap tape in place of the rubber seal as it will compress easier.
