I have been working on this for awhile!
I took a set of the "FORD" grill letters that were missing the red plastic inserts. I pressed them face down onto a ink pad, then onto paper to get a line drawing of the letter. Then I was able to use a scanner to import the image into a graphics program for making vinyl letters for signs. I spent a lot of time digitizing/tweeking the image and cutting vinyl to get the vinyl to sit inside of the letter just right. Once I had all the letters dialed in I cut the letters out of a some really bright orange vinyl. I cleaned up the chrome letters real good so the vinyl would stick to the surface. Then I applied each vinyl letter to the chome letter. After that I took some clear epoxy and carefully applied it over the vinyl. The results look great.
I have to put them on my Bronco and see how they hold up!
I know I can dig the epoxy and vinyl letter out and redo them.
I can even spray paint onto the vinyl and apply them to match the color of my rig.
I even put some of the epoxy onto a chrome letter that the face of the letter was pitted. The vinyl would not stick very well to the pitted face.
Then I cut the vinyl letters and applied it over the epoxy. That looks good too.
Thanks
Gerry
