If AA ever gets in all the backordered gearsets I will be installing my Atlas 4spd in the next couple months. I am going to be making my own cross-members and am looking for advice on what material to use for the actual piece that spans between the frame rails.
I will be making two, one for the rear of the tranny and one for the rear of the Atlas. I will then hopefully be making a skid plate between the two. They could both see considerable weight if I turtle on a rock or something.
fastenal is a good supplier of tubing etc because they sell a lot of the stuff by the foot for a reasonable price. So 1.5" .25"wall DOM is @ $1/ft, which is a less than $6 for what I need.
Another consideration is I may have to bend this tubing to make it as high clearance as possible. I am not sure I have a means of bending 1/4" wall tubing, so at that point, should I go square tubing where I can mitre cut it to get my offset??
Open to suggestions. Thanks!
