I have a set of 289 heads that have 3 rocker studs pulling out. How is this fixed?

A quarter century ago when I was in the machine shop all day..they made a screw-in repair stud for those. Another old school race mod was to pin all 16 press-in studs with an 3/32" roll pin. I wouldn't know where to find 'em now..and I always convert to ARP studs meself these days..but that requires machining of stud bosses (the repair studs have no shoulders..the ARPs do) and tapping all 16 of 'em.

I have seen the roll pin trick. Screw in studs are always better but I am glad to see there is a repair stud. I was wondering if there was an oversized press in stud but I guess a screw in would be a good fix. So I guess I have to take them to an old machinist to get this done?

Most of 'em are either dead or in an old folks home dribbling uncontrollably down their chins..or, like me, are dribbling down their chins and should be in an old folks home.

Bill your dribbling down your chin for a different reason. Now go back to watching Filly work. Thanks for the help.

Yes it is. Looks like the 289 out of my 68 is in good shape and that is what I will go with. putting a little more money in it but at least I know what condition it is in.

With the money spent on the old machinist to do the work you can buy a new head, And if you're going that route you may just buy a pair of fully dressed heads....

Over sized studs are still availible but I'd just go the screw in route there should be some availible with shoulders. That will only require tapping the existing holes but I'd go with the full adjustable type which cost more and will require guide plates, hardened pushrods and machining of the pedastals. Of course thats one of the reasons I just went with aftermarket heads is by the time I got them converted to the way I wanted it was only going to cost me about $200 more for heads that would be way better.
