Power assist brakes need assistance

Not ready to go hydroboost (unless 1 of you has a bargain set up) but I have heard that there is something available to help increase vacuum to improve current set up. I have good brakes when manifold vacuum is high. Similar problem with my tow rig which is an 89 F350. Any thoughts?

Downshifting the engine works good to increse vacuum and is free.
