1. Count the number of teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. Devide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.
2. Mark the ring gear. Count the number of revolutions of the pinion gear/yoke it takes to get the ring gear to turn one time.

I believe you can approximate by turning a tire and counting how many times the driveshaft turns.

Yes, before you go pulling the cover...

Mark a line on the sidewall of the tire and make a mark on the drive shaft so you can see it good. White chalk, soap stone or a paint pen works well. No spin the tire once and count how many times the drive shaft turns. It should get you really close.

If it has a locker lift both tires. If not lift 1 tire and divide by 2.

Tape a string on the drive line and mark the tire go forward 1 full turn of the tire and then count the number of time the string goes around the drive line.

If you do pull the cover; the ring gear should have some numbers on it that will tell you what you have...
