So I've picked up a '77 lower power steering shaft that includes the rag joint. It's in great condition but needs a good degreasing and cleaning. I don't want to disassemble the whole thing and am wondering if it's a bad idea to get degreaser on the rag joint? Thanks.

Probably not the best idea I'd try to clean it up as much as possible without getting degreaser on the rag joint itself.

Custom lower shafts are nicer. The rag joint is however replaceable, my local parts stores carry them in the "help" section. If the degreaser damages the joint, the replacement is cheap. I guess it depends on the kind of degreaser you're using, but I would not expect any problems.
