Have a 77 that took me 2 years to restore with mild 331 stocker and c4 that was completly rebuilt with new parts by trans shop. Has Ron Davis radiator with trans cooler and large stack cooler in front with pusher fan, also have c4 deep sump pan. Bronco running on 35 t/a with 4/11 gears.

Drove bronco 400 miles to camping area with no problums. While crusing up mild dirt roads around 8000 feet in drive pulled over to talk and left motor running with fan on, then noticed trans fluid running down and out bottom bell housing.

Motor temp 190 and trans 180 and when started to drive leak would stop but if slowed down or stop it would leak again.

Added two quarts of atf in morning and drove home with no more leaking.

So is front seal going out or trans pump not moving enough fluid at lower rpm.

Did you replace the converter? Sounds like your converter may be getting hot.

If that's the case I would take it back to the tranny shop. That should be covered under warranty. It must be the front seal is bad, probably caused by a bad bushing or a defective converter.

Only two places it can leak into the bellhousing, the front seal and the pump gasket. Probably the seal leaking. Old converters with scarred snouts can take out a new seal quickly. Fluid volume is not a factor.
