i decided to rebuild my heater while i wait on some supplies for the bigger projects. I figured this would be a fairly simple and quick little rebuild, so i took some pics to post up. now i know my poor heater box isnt in that great of shape, but it wasnt quite bad enought o justify getting a whole new box. here is my parts list:

1. New 78' Chevy Blower and Fan-Delphi PN BM10033- $49.99 complete- Auto Zone Item # 942696
2. New Bronco Heater Core-Spectra PN 398016- $20.99- Auto Zone Itme # 144360
3. Black Silicone Sealant- $5.99
4. New Screws (replace rivets in Box) $4.50
5. 8" x 10" peice of sheet metal.

you can see the difference between the chevy fan size and the bronco fan. i expect some pretty intense heat! ;D hopefully very efficient defrost as well...

oh also, it made be hard to see, but i had to make a little mount plate to give the screws that replaced the box rivets something to tap into. i just used the box as a template...

Here are the pics...

Great post - x2 on part numbers and source. The "old" heater upgrade thread has a lot of info on it but its pages and pages long - maybe you can complete the p/n part and send it off to Jon as a tech article.

Let me know how much better you like the fan. I just done a rebuild on mine with the stocker but if you see a big difference I may do the same upgrade.

assembled and sealed... i just seal the outside edges of everything since this sealant seems to set up pretty tight. gotta be able to get it back apart right?

i also put the sealant on the ends of all exposed screw tips, so i dont bloody myself while im installing/removing in the future...;D

Also, my wiring harness for the heater was laying in the floor board when i bought the bronco, so im not sure what goes where, but it looks like the single orange wire goes to the blower motor, while the dual oranges go to the little coil thing in the core cover, and the red and orange together go to the back of the center heat/fan knob/switch... Please, if anybody knows for sure or has a revision to that chime in... im guessing...

also, SBeard73, my bronco is so far from running, its more like garage art right now... i was just doing this as a small project between big headaches... LOL:cool:

Your new chevy heater is one wire, and your old orange bullet wire connects to it. you will need to run a ground from one of the four motor mount bolts to the dash. Just did this mod again last week.
