For all of us doing the 4R70W conversion I can now confirm the Bc bronco ZF crossmember wont work with with the 4R70W with the standard ford 4x4 tail EXT. just by re-drilling the frame mounting holes. The main crossmember bar will bolt up to the stock bronco crossmember frame holes and will be located perfectly so it will be a easy fix. I will fab up a new upper transmission bracket to go with the main ZF bar it will be angled up 1 3/4" and forward 1 7/8"more than the ZF bracket. I will be posting pics to help anyone wanting to do it this way. It will be much easier than making a complete crossbar. I will try to fab up a new bracket Sat. and post more pics. For the record Chuck told he did not know if it would work for a 4R70W and I could try it and send it back if it didn't work . I am not bashing bc broncos at all. I think It is great that he said I can try it and send it back.I am going to fab a extra bracket up all send to Chuck So he can just change the bracket on the ZF crossmeber and offer a bolt up a 4R70W crossmember If he wants to fab some upper brackets. Thanks Keith

sorry this is off topic, well kind of, but what transfer case is that? I just pull my EFI engine out of an '00 mountaineer and I'm keeping the 4r70w to use at a later time because of the cost for the adapter and controller and rebuild, etc. I noticed mine has the same extension housing as what I'm seeing here, and it looks like you have it bolted up w/o the adapter. Not a d20 I'm thinking? Doesn't look like one.

np205? Do those just bolt up in place of the D20? different drive shafts or ends needed?

Yep a NP205 direct bolt up with a notch in the 4R70W ext. housing for the upper shift rail

So the ZF trans mount is the same as the 4R70W trans mount and the only modification required is to make new offset "wings"?

No it is not the same But it is close and I am fabing up a upper bracket to make it work. I cut some wood strips for templates to make the new upper bracket I am using 3/16" plate steel . I will be fabing and welding up the bracket Sat. see Pics of the wood templates

I got the upper brace Fabed up for the 4R70W transmission mount today. I decided to add a vertical brace between the angled upright pieces. I think it turned out great check out the pics. If anyone wants to do it this way send me your address and I will send you some card board templates to cut by .Now I will be fabing up the NP205 brace at the top of the frame rail like Bax posted a pic of on my NP205 Post. Thanks Keith

That looks like a good adapter bracket. Good job on that. Looks like it will work just fine.

Good thread, I'm thinking of selling the ZF 5-speed and going with the 4R70W trans. Have both trans sitting in the garage.

Can you just scan in the drawings and email the file?

If you send me all the dimensions I will draw it up. If I could get everything down on CAD I may even be able to make a couple. ;D

I need two dimensions to get me started. The bolt pattern on the trans where it mounts, and how far below the top of the frame rails does the bottom of the 4R70W sit?

These dimensions would also help me out. Another design I have looked at, but I think a combination or round tubing and a flat mounting support would be ideal. I want something that looks good and functions as good as it looks. Just my .02!

I saw that crossmember on a thread maybe Dave's .It looks real good but I all ready bought bc broncos ZF crossmember hoping it was just re-drilling some holes or sliding it back. The bracket was not hard to make I made it out of 3/16 plate steel. Every thing is easy to get to like the JB fab twin sticks adjustments and the upper transfer case bolts.

I received the templates the other day, and I am in the process of drawing this up and adding my own revisions to make it a little beefier and easy to assemble. I will post ASAP and will have a CAD file also.
