That was at SEMA last year. A $200 solution to using a $20 VSS. And with GPS you can have issues with recieving signals all the time.

It is actually old technology, just new marketing. They have been using this in boats for years. Marketing just realized they could use this off the shelf boat part and sell more of them to car people. The real application is for using transmissions that have no provision for VSS. Most new drivetrains have no VSS and pull the speed off the ABS system. So swapping late model drivetrain into hotrods leaves issues of trying to get a working speedometer, this is a good fix for that problem.
