Tapping small threaded holes in frame for wiring harness.

Guys, It's wiring time for my truck and I wanted to see if anyone had any advice on tapping some threaded holes for cushion clamps. Is their any weak area of the frame that I should avoid putting holes in. I am going to use the smallest tap I have and just use larger washers with a smaller bolt for the larger cushion clamps to limit the size of the holes I tap in the frame. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know on the K5 you really had to plan out drilling due to weak points, so I figured it would be better to ask given my limited knowledge of the Bronco frames.

3/16" self tapping screws works. Bronco frames are solid so placements shouldn't be a concern. Replace self tapping screws with stainless screws if you don't want them to corrode.

Pretty much anywhere is fine, and I would not necessarily use the smallest screw. 10-24/10-32 or 1/4-20 would be what I would use for machine threads.

Self tapping screws are OK, or you can tap it for a machine screw. Sometimes the stainless self tapping strip easier since SS is actually pretty soft.

I really would not worry about any strength related issues from this at all.

1/4 - 20 is my favorite. Most of the holes that are in the frame from the old harness clips will take a 1/4-20 tap without any drilling.

I second the stainless steel 1/4"-20! I used them on my brake and fuel clamps. For the wiring i went to pepboys and got nice plastic push-in style clamps that fit nicly around my split loom. There are no weak spots im aware of. I was able to use up alot of the old holes my frame had already.

Cool thanks for the info guys, I will use the 1/4-20 and convert the existing holes that are not being used, that is a good idea.

I used self tapping stainless hex head screws and stainless hold down clamps. Make sure you use never seize!

If you use stainless put some anti seize on the threads to minimize galvanic corrosion.
