Engine or trans in first... or together?

Okay, so I have the truck back and it's time to put the engine and tranny/t-case back in. So, which goes in first or should I try to get them in together?

Engine is an EFI 5.0L and the trans is an NV3550 5-speed. I think i might be able to squeeze them in together if I take the shift tower off of the trans and remove the t-case. I have an engine load leveler and a shop crane.

They came out engine first, trans second.

You can do eng, trans and tcase together but may have to drop front down to drums/discs to get a decent angle.

There is no way you are getting them in all together as one piece unless your core support is gone. I personally would do trans and transfer case first as they are the harder to lift in. bolt those in and then put the motor to them instead of trying to lift them into the motor from undernieth. just me i would rather drop motor in them lift tranny up.

I've done them every different way but I've found that installing the tranny/T-case first and then the engine is the easiest way, unless you take the body off first.;D

If you can, I prefer everything together.
Not sure what Amac20's problem was, but I have done it without any core support issues.

apperently im just not savy enough or unwilling to take wheels and tires off and set truck on ground. could be im also just used to the longer zfs and 4r's. I guess its possible though.

Another vote for installing the transmission & transfer case from below, then the engine from the top. 100 times easier than putting the transmission in from the bottom once the engine is in.

What ever route you take. Take great care in aligning the trans input shaft into the very fragile bronze oillite AA pilot bushing (for the nv 3550) do not jar it on even the slightest angle!

I think bolting the trans and engine together outside of the truck is the route Im gonna try first. Less chance of tweaking something and less stress on the pilot bushing.
