Gasket Material as Opposed to RTV for Adapter Mounting

Hey,

After a little searching, it appears using a liberal amount of RTV to form a gasket is a preferred method. Is there any downside to this method long term?

Are there even pre-manufactured gaskets that can be used between a T-18 and an adapter, and between the adapter and the D-20?

I could go either way.
