Something else to consider, and don't take this as gospel coming from me I could be wrong. Just passing along what I was told. The windings on the alt. are either purple (130amp) or yellow (110amp). BTW mine is from a 93 Taurus with a 3.8 litre. $35 from the local u-pull it.

Look at front, for 4 holes vs 2 holes near ribs.

OX1 supplied some good pics & info. Remember that the large housing comes in a variety of mounting ear configurations. The 94-95 mustang is a little more compact than the early taurus and might fit better and be closer to the stock alt mounting points. The pics show the installation of a 3/8x16 helicoil I did to make it a little more friendly during the mounting and belt adjusting process. The stock mounting ear on this 3G housing didnt come with threads, hence the helicoil made it possible to install the factory bronco mounting bolt with the large integral flat washer.

I use the PartsAmerica.com website for my cross reference.. Look up a 95 Mustang 3.8l alternator. On the page showing the part there is a link that says 'show me all the vehicles this part fits'.

Here I will cheat and use one of my suppliers website/look up guide (you guys can too)

Here is the best bolt in 3G mount:
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/partimage.cfm?wai_num=20-236-20-2

This one will work, but the clock position isnt as nice:
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/partimage.cfm?wai_num=20-234-31-2

This one comes already threaded, but only 115amps, and the clock postion sucks:
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/partimage.cfm?wai_num=20-232-11-2

This is a direct bolt in for the large size older ext. regulated units:
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/partimage.cfm?wai_num=20-226-10-2
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/partimage.cfm?wai_num=20-226-13-2

The difference noted in the sizes are correct. And same with the color differences in the wire. If you cant find any good used units, I can drop ship from WAI, they make a decent alternator, and can oder all the plugs you need from them too.

Through the side of the case. It is the stator which is the big ring in the center of the alternaotr. Should be able to see the wires from either the front or the back.

You wil need to change the pulleys. You also need to do the rewire. What i meant was the distance from the bolt Centers of the mounting bolts was the same as is the alignment of the pulleys. So no bracket modifications are needed or spacers either. Sorry I was not cleaer on that.

So I looked in the tech section and didn't see a write up. Is there somewhere that lists how to do the rewire, and how long it will take to burn my truck to the ground if I try it with my crusty old 68 hack job wireing?

I'll be getting a painless in the near future, and I plan on doing the alt. upgrade then.

I am going to have a full picture diagram setup on my website soon. It is rather easy and I think I still have a flyer type instruction I can send you. But it is for one of my units which comes with the plugs already rewired so you only have to make one connection to the harness.
