I used a sound bar from Vertically Driven Products I picked up at Summit. It's similar to what's in a Jeep and comes with a bunch of mounting hardware. It's the one designed for UTV's and I had to cut about 10" out of the middle to make it fit between the bars. It had a light in the middle so I just cut it out, added some steel braces inside and welded the plastic back together with a soldering iron. It looks real good and you can hardley know it's there unless you're inside but the sound is limited going down the road. You just can't get enough bass out of it at higher volume to make it sound good. I'm going to add some speaker pods to the doors to get more bass and even it out. This is the best picture I could find for now.

My son and I built this one. I had the whole rig assembled last summer before we started paint and these are plenty loud. The wiring runs inside the passenger side leg of the front hoop.

I'm in the process of building some simple speaker pods with integrated tube-clamps that will mount to my cage. Got 4.5" pods for the front and 6.5" pods for the rear. Similar to CrawlTunes nice commercial product, only home made (and cheaper) ;)

What are you using for the cans? I need to make some that will hold components.

A super high-quality product...

Called PVC.. ;D

A PVC end cap, little plywood, liquid nails, and black spray paint. Then of course your choice of speakers, wire, a little poly-fill, and desired tube clamp. Here's a 6.5" pods raw materials:

Yep I really want to stuff something near the floor board section and turn my basic to speaker with bazooka into a 4 speaker system;D

ill take some pics, there is a sketch of it on dusty's build thread i think. one trick with the pvc, it's nicer if you have some of the actual tube as well but not necc. it gives a lot more meat for the screws to bite into. problem is the tubepart is harder to come by in short lengths... again, not necc, you can do the same with just the caps.

+2 on the pvc. i used the same, but cheaped out on the clamps and used u bolts.
Man I want to see more pics of that cage too!

I like what you did there with the x2 pieces of PVC. Looks like a cap and maybe a union or extension glued together? I'm only using the caps which reduces the amount of interior volume for the speaker. That will likely impact my lower end frequencies, but I did use some polyester fill to help offset the smaller enclosure. It's a balance I suppose, either huge cans but great sound, or smaller (easier to mount) cans with decent sound. Also I cut and inserted a wood ring to hold and screw the speakers into:

yup, i did get a union on each pod, if i did it again, i'd have probably just got one union and two caps, glued it with a cap on each end and cut it in half, so a half union was on each pod. these are a little long, but witht he ubolts so far apart, i'ts really really sturdy.

*** here's one i have of the tail gate. i got so used to carrying the spare loose behind the seat, i decided i didn't want it outbaord, so i mounted it to the inside of a swinging tailgate. i can mount to the outside of the gate too, with the factory gate down or off. also stole chuck's body mount frame tie ins... (thanks chuck)

my speakers in the roll bar

Not proud on some of the welding. I had a crappy Hobart 120V machine that was 30 years old, I wondered why my father gave it to me :)

If I had to do it over again I would do them a little different. but not much. it really works well and it can easily be heard running 75 with the soft top.

There are two small speakers in the overhead with the radio and two mounted in the roll bar. The light switch beside the radio is for the off-road lights and the overhead light.

All the wires including the radio antenna come up through the cage. Getting the radio out of the dash really cleans up a lot of wiring.

Better radio now with satellite and a USB port now.
