It is F4TE roller block but it does have a flat tappet cam according to the sales literature

You mentioned it’s a roller block but then mentioned flat tappet cam, usually a roller block has a roller cam which has different lifters than a non-roller block. I would try to verify which one it has, rollerblock and cam being the most desirable. Good luck and keep us posted.

The F150 Lightning 351W was a roller block but had a Ford marine flat tappet cam.
It would not surprise me to find a flat tappet cam in an SVO crate engine.

I think you will be pretty darn happy with it.

Power point a little high on the tac?
That's fine just gear for it.

Sounds like it will be a kickass power plant,

Currently running 4.88 gears and 35s. I am still hoping that cam is not to big.

Only one way to find out!!

Congrats!! sounds like a great deal for a well built 351 but from what I hear you could have put a 5.0L Coyote engine in there for the same price ;D and yes I'm a smart ass.

Well....if you don't have 4.88's to accommodate overdrive then it might be perfect for that high revver.

No matter what,
it is going to be great and 4.88's sound like fun to me.

I dug back in my old catalogs and saw that engine retailed in '95/'96 for $3250.

Not really - you have it all nicely summarized in that photo you posted on the first page.

Got it home today and I am pretty happy. Everything is super clean, pulled the valve covers and its spotless. Exhaust ports look great and the cylinder walls look good.

This thing is truly ready to run. I just need to put the correct pan on it.

I ended up paying $2000 for it which included a brand new engine stand (not the cheap harbor freight one either).

The back story is it was bought by the owner of Padington's Pizza for a truck he was building. He was well known in the community for the quality cars that he owned. He unfortunately passed away and the engine sat in the heated garage with all of his things. His wife decided to enlist her son in law to start selling things and this engine was in the lot of things.

I offered 1500 and he wouldn't take it. So we went back and forth and stuck at 2000. I am happy with the price for what it is and everything it includes.

I am going to start another thread on cam swap possibilities

If you bought a roller block used for like $400, and had it machined and bored and new pistons, etc - you'd have a forty over block and at least $2k in it, especially if you re-used those heads and had them re-done. So you did very fine on this at $2k.

I think I'd leave the heads on, but put on a new water pump and thermo-stat, looks like you may swap cams so that is a good time for that stuff anyway.
