Well I guess the debate continues! But it sounds like it's sometimes being enforced if 1970Mule was almost ticketed.

I talked with a SJPD officer yesterday and he said that the commercial officer would be the one to ticked for bead locks if they were in an unsafe condition and even then the code would be a broad unsafe vehicle.

I look at this as a 50 different people with 50 different answers situation.

Here is the link

http://publicsafety.utah.gov/safetyinspections/safetyinspection.html

It is the passenger vehicle and light duty truck link
You will need to download the PDF and it is on page #18 but it is the 24th page of the Pdf

Utah is pretty shitty with some of their law enforcement. If you read a little lower on that PDF, it goes into tire size & other stuff. Like the "Tire tread is not fully covered by the existing fenders or fender extenders". I look at mine with a set of UFO flares from Duff, a set of 33x12.5 tires on 10" rims & according to that, I am illegal. My cousin got pulled over last year headed to Moab for having his tires 1/2" outside of his flares and no mud flaps on a minimally modified Jeep. The Utah state patrol told him to turn around and head back to Colorado because if he kept going he was going to get a ticket & his rig was going to be impounded.

That PDF also says (p. 38) that a GVW of 4500, the frame height is a max of 24" I just checked & I am at 23" with roughly 4" of suspension lift & 33s that actually measure 31.4". Now if I get new shoes that are a 35, that is going to put me in the illegal range again.

You can read through that thing and find all kinds of stuff that puts the majority of everyone on this board in the illegal range, or failed inspection range. Hell, I know that I have at least 4 failing grades in Utah right now.

AFAIK, a vehicle that's legal in the state it's registered/titled/housed in is legal in all states. For instance, if CO law says your truck is legal with 1/2" of tread past the fenders/extensions, then it's legal to travel in/through all 50 states. If you RESIDE in another state, or the vehicle is HOUSED there, then other laws come into effect... TN & MS have a nice little catch-22 for people who live in MS but commute to TN to work.
