Tell me what I've bought what did the T18 or 19 come from and what is the gear ratio in 1st gear as compare to my NP435....I don't think I want the T18 or 19 but took them in the rest of the stuff I bought ...I figured I could sell them later ..Since I already have an NP 435 in place ...I bought some more stuff for my 4BT swap ....

The t-19 BEHIND the 460ci or diesel(tow trucks 1-tons and 3/4 tons) they have a 4.02 first gear ratio. The small block t-19's(late '70 f150's, and some International Scouts) have a 6.69 first gear ratio...slightly lower but probably not noticeable compared to your np435. The difference between the t-18 and t-19 is that the t-18 has one PTO cover on the passenger side and the t-19 has the PTO covers on both, and the t-19 is slightly stronger than the t-18. Both trannys have a cast iron top compared to your aluminum top on your np435. It does require a different adapter than what you have to mate up your tranny(another $300 for you). Your np435 is easier to find and is well proven through this board. I was at a loss for a tranny and it was all I could find around me for my rig. This is what I remember for my searching and installation when I had installed mine, I dont know everything and im sure I forgot some stuff.

While I dont know for a fact but the low geared T-18 is supposed to be pretty rare most were the higher gear even behind small blocks. The T-19 is the same as the T-18 except that the first gear is synconized so you can down shift into first unlike the T-18 and NP435. Strenght wise they are all about the same.

I have a T19 currently in an international that has the 4:1 first gear. International will sell it to you behind just about any engine.

Most of the vendors sell the adapters for the t-18/T-19 and the 435.

435 should be Ratios: 6.68, 3.34, 1.79, 1
T-18 Should be 6.32, 3.09, 1.69, 1.00 (Jeep and IH versions had a 4.02 first gear)

Three gearing options were available for the Ford T19.
4:02:1 first gear was the most common on the T19A.
6.32:1 first gear on rarer Ford 500-800 series HD trucks.
5.1:1 was made for two years (1983-1984) on the T19.

I used a 6 cyl extention housing and machined it to fit the back of a T-18. It
fit exactly in the same spot as the V8 3 speed and adapter.

I'm running the T-19 myself.. Got my adapter from Tom's and used my 6-cyl spud shaft.. Tough as nails and I can rock and jam gears in the mud and not worry about it :)

From Novak's site:
Ford & Scout T19's
Very much similar to the T18 in appearance and build is the T19. This four-speed transmission is different from the T18 and others in that it usually features taller gearing and a synchronized first gear. It was introduced in Ford trucks in the 1968 model year.

Three gearing options were available for the Ford T19. The T19 was available with a 6.32:1 first gear. These were only in rarer Ford 500-800 series HD trucks. The very most common T19 available in Ford applications was the T19A with the 4:02:1 first gear ratio. For two years (documented from 1983-1984) there was a Ford T19 with a 5.1:1 first gear. All ratios listed had a synchronized first.

We've learned that the 1983 to 1986 Ford T19's, as installed behind the 460 and diesel had the 4.02:1 first gear, in a 2wd application, or a diesel 4wd application. The 460 4wd truck got the 6.32:1 first gear, purportedly from 1983 to 1986 F250's.

The T19 transmissions are equipped with dual PTO ports.

The IH Scout T19 was available from 1975 to 1980 with close and wide ratio options. As for the IH T18, they had a unique case and input shaft that make most Jeep conversions impractically expensive.

Scouts may have only had the T19 after '75, but its what is in my '72 1210 pickup. It has the dual PTO covers and the 4:1 first. No idea on the splines or mounting. Have yet to take it out nor do I plan to anytime soon.

Chicken :) :) Do the guy thing, pull it and tear it apart to see how it works :)

This is my redneck truck. doesn't get worked on until it is completely dead. 3 of the 4 brakes still work (if you pump them first;) )
I have a NP203 divorced T-case I plan to install with my own custom driveshafts (see how good my welds really are). I just need a doubler to slow it down a little more. Now that 2WD doubler (just leave it in lo-lock and forget about installing the shifter) is going to block the exhaust. so a 4½" pipe (not exhaust tube but sturctural pipe) will make the single vertical exhaust behind the cab. Oh, I will be deleting the twin glasspacks when doing this as well. This is a work truck, right down to the faded american flag painted on the hood with house paint.

I have no intention of taking it any further apart to fix it then needed to keep it mobile. If (when?) the engine ever dies I will simply find the cheapest small block turbo 350 combo I can scrounge. drop it in (probably without even changing the oil) and set it to run. Hopefully then new engine will come with mounts or I will simply weld the cast iron block to some C-channel to hold it in the truck. Did I mention that this is a beater?
