Yeah, I get confused easily, and I'm not a real good deducer. Here's the basics: 351W from a 1987 F150, upgrading to serpentine belt from Don Sanndmann, 4x4x2 steering gear box (I think), 2000 Mustang HB. First Q: Will the pictured PS pump work? Second Q: I bought the pictured bracket. Do I have to shim out the firewall 1/4" to get over the small bends? Maybe cut the bends off? Thanks for any help. Howard in beautiful west Michigan

As pictured, Grind down the right edge of the Firewall Bracket and the Hydro Bracket will sit flat.

I'm not sure if that Explorer Pump will work great with the Hydroboost. A Saginaw Pump works the best. WH has the conversion kit for it with the Explorer front serpentine.

That is a stock Explorer power steering pump. They do work fine. But as with everything we do on a Bronco, there are upgrades to something better even if only slightly. There is also the superduty pump upgrade as well.

The only thing you really have to worry about with the stock explorer pump is if you run AN lines you need the right AN adaptor. The generic one that fits the pump gets into the relief valve, pump won't work. Was known as Lee's but I think someone else makes it now has the correct adaptor.

It works

I’ve been running that exact setup for years - bracket, explorer, hb- no issues.

I had to flatten the fire wall bracket and get the fitting from Lees but other than that - no issues.

I run 35” tires and it brakes hard.

I had to "oblong" the holes in the bracket in order to get the 2000 Mustang HB to fit - I assumed this is not too unusual, y/n? Also, I've been wondering where in the heck the plate with rolled edges should go.

The plate goes on the Mustang Hydroboost and the large Nut on the shaft side of the Hydroboost holds the plate on. The large nut will have to be removed. (Remove C-Clip and Nut) install Plate and tighten nut down and replace C-Clip. The Plate will end up flat on the front of the Bracket.

You should not have to modify anything for the Mustang Unit to fit if you have the correct Inline Bracket. There are 2 different Inline Brackets. One is for the Mustang and one is for the Astro Van.

Which bracket did you order? Which Hydroboost are you using?

Here are some mock up pictures.

Inline Bracket only. Then Mustang Hydroboost Installed.

The Plate that is flat against the Inline Bracket and is held in place by the large nut on the shaft of the Hydroboost. I painted the plate Black.

I hope this helps.

Man, my first sentence in this thread is sure spot on! Thanks, Rguest3! I searched and read and re-read all the posts I could find on this site and others, and just could not track down or figure out the wheres and whyfors, plus the bracket did not come with instructions. Well, I hope I'm back on track. Btw, the bracket is for a Mustang hydroboost and the HB is a 2000 Mustang. Thanks Rguest3, and the pictures are very helpful!

Still not feeling the love..... Bracket puts the brake lines smack-dap hard on the wheel well. I'm thinkin' this can't be a good thing. What am I missing/ not getting/ screwin' up? I still have to shim the body to the chassis but I don't think I'm THAT far off. Hmmmm, heck, and HELP!

looks like if you even try and shim it up at the bottom on firewall it will hit the hood?:?

Well, that master looks like more of a pain than it's worth.
First though, can you even flip the reservoir around so that it's more level at least? I know that's not going to fix the hard line dilemma, but it will at least allow you more clearance (maybe) and more fluid in reserve (definitely) when in use.

I see it looks like the same master rguest is using, but I don't see any lines connected in his pic yet.
If you're going to go as far as putting the unit over the top of the wheel well, I would use a side-port master cylinder for clearance.

But I've never put one of these on, so don't know all the ins-and-outs, or little tricks of the trade.

Good luck.

And you've probably mentioned it somewhere, but what is the master off of? Is it the same Mustang donor, or something else?

Is there a chance it will be OK when the body is shimmed better?

I want to say - 93 Astro Van. I can double check.

I got the whole set up at O’riellys reman’d for under a $100.

I got the lines from WH but it’s easier and cheaper to go to Napa and have them custom make your hoses - less bloody finger tips and frustration. Less bling factor though...

I haven’t had an issue with the explorer pump - turns 35s with ease and as quoted in a previous hydro boost thread “stops on a dime and s**** two nickels!”

I’ll pm you with model year and info tomorrow

Howard, I have the Astro m/c on my truck. If I remember right the ports are on the drivers side so you will have to route under the m/c... but its better thanhaving it come out the bottom.

hope it helps, Don

Do you mean in reference to your door openings? I suppose there can be some twist between the firewall and the top of the wheel well, but it depends not only on what direction you need to shim it, but also on just how much is needed.
Shimming should only be done for door openings. If you shim to try to make more clearance at the bottom of the master, you don't want your body lines getting skewed out of line.
And I'm pretty sure you'd have to shim the living daylights out of it to make enough room for this to be easy.

I would think that, unless you can have brake lines made that have super tight 90 degree bends, you'd be better off with a different master cylinder.

All very good input, guys, thanks a LOT. Don't know where I'm heading. Paul, I was thinking of the brake lines. Seems new master cylinder would a viable option, but which one?
