Got the motor in this week. Many thanks to Johnathan for coming over and helping me out, another friend made on this great site. PS still trying to convince myself this was a good idea, this is a steep learning curve.

Hey!!

Body if off with a body Guru working out a few issues. Getting the body out the door was allot of work. I will post pictures tomorrow, I went a different route with the quarters, the gap was to big decided to try the new Dennis Carpenter Flares.

For what it’s worth, thanks again for your cutouts! I put them to good use. Finally got them looking decent and painted on the bag end. Even though you went a different direction, they helped me!

You sticking with flares for the front then or back to stock fenders?

The good. the bad and the ugly:

The good is I have learned to be an ok welder.

The bad, building your own body is a complete waste of time with the aftermarket metal, what no one tells you is all those dream builders send their metal to be messaged by Gurus so they fit right. This stuff is a joke.

The ugly, the master fabricator/painter I took my Bronco to said half the metal on my truck needs to be reworked due to manufacturing flaws, ouch!!! After $$ he was able to fix the gaps that were driving me crazy.

That being said I am learning and loving the experience! I knew when I was putting this together it was way out there with my level of experience..

Onward and upward I say.

That is great input and help people set expectations. The most value is where you have used your own labor to replace rust which had to be done anyway, the bodywork is still a cost either way due to having to now take all of the sheet metal back to a finish state. I think there is some savings but either way, a good body man will want to finish out all of the panels for a good finish so the only real savings is the rust repair and dent repairs I assume ( plus all of the fun you had!). Good for others to keep in mind and thanks for all the detail.

I thought you did a pretty exceptional job for your first attempt. The pros have jigs which make things easier and experience on knowing how to get things to fit... the body looks great man, glad you didn't quit! Its going to look great!

The honest answer is my work was ok, I spent an whole lot of time and money getting it to this stage. Now that I am in the Bronco world more and more I hear the secrets. I met up with Mark with San Diego Broncos, a long time builder and A plus fix it man told me the parts coming from the various metal stampers are way off, there are so many tweaks needed that most of us are unaware of, the big ones are the cowl, it needs allot of tweaking, it is not correct so if you are building an entire body around it everything will be off. Most of the big builders have their metal reworked before installation. If you notice on some of the new tub makers there are larger gaps at the window frame door, that is from poor stamping, not fabricator error. The reason I love this site is great insight, I hope this helps the next person. FYI this an exceptional issue since I built an entire new tub..

I was lucky I guess in the fact that was the only piece of my truck that wasn't gone. I did have to to do some substantial patch jobs on it but overall I hear you on how much of an under taking it is to build one of these in your garage...

I think the window frame gaps are from the aftermarket door posts and doors. My 71EB has a rust free cowl and the body shop suggested door posts. The windshield/door frame gaps were big and cowl adjustments were needed.

I think all aftermarket sheetmetal needs tweaking. I have seen it in the non-EB world as well.
