Update

It's been awhile since I've posted an update here but don't worry I haven't been neglecting the project! I'll have some photos up later as my phone only allows me to load one picture per post! Ok, so new floor pans are tacked in, front core is removed and will be blasted and patched where according, inner fenders and tubs are scraped, passenger side kick panel and upper cowel along with any rust has been removed, just need to make a few replacement pieces and get the new cowel in place along with kick panel. Then I plan on fixing the driver side area and then removing the old steering box and clean/paint the rest of the frame. Then hopefully get my inner fenders and core back on and then get my door post/fenders hung and then tackle the pick up bed! Wish me luck! Lol

Most of the rust is cut out, just need to fix that support channel that runs under the cowel, and fix a few spots on the fire wall. Should have that done next week! :) I also threw in the photo of the duck blind I fabbed up, gotta have other hobbies to keep sane!

Hey guys quick question. I'm in the process of putting my right upper cowel and kick panel back on. I'm noticing two things if I line the three holes up on the kick panel with those on the inner rocker I notice the edge of the kick panel extends about 3 inches past of where the edge of the original door post was. Is this normal as most of my door post were rusted away. I've looked at pictures and I know how it's supposed to look but I wonder if you guys had any input? Other panel is the upper cowel. It sits pretty well except it over hangs about a half inch from the outer edge of the fire wall. I'll take some photos and post them if you guys are having trouble understanding what I'm trying to explain

Kick panel

Red arrows are stamped line and blue arrows indicate the edge that to me doesn't appear to be cut on a straight line. Do I need to trim that kick panel on the edge those blue arrows are pointing to? If so I feel like the holes circled in green will line up better, the faint orange square is just to demonstrate its square based of the stamped line with the red arrows... Any pointers?

I noticed that the distance from the edge of my kick panel on my drivers side to the far edge of the lower rocker is 36.5" and 37" on the passenger side. Im thinking that's why my holes are about a 0.5" off from lining up on the passenger side. I'll download some photos this week to show the progress. I'm itching to get back up next week and fix that hole issue and then get my firewall stripped, replace the right body mount, then paint the frame, patch up my front core support, then square the front by mounting my hood and getting those inner fenders/tubs/brackets in! Super excited that this thing is looking more like a bronco again!

thanks man! I'm chomping at the bit to get back up there and work on her! i was getting a little frustrated when things were not lining up and was losing hope. Now that I have those kick panels back on its starting to look more like a bronco again! I put zip strip on all the remaining paint before i left to come back to work, so when i get back up hopefully my small 20lb blaster will make easy work of stripping the remaining paint!

weekly update

Ok so I fixed the gap on those holes where the inner rocker and kick panel meet.

IMG_1262.jpg

then we removed the remaining brackets for the break/clutch/gas pedals and removed the remaining portion of the steering column. Then we got out the good ole wire wheel, and media blaster and cleaned up the frame and fire wall

IMG_1216.jpg

IMG_1226.jpg

Then we applied the degreaser gave it a rinse, then the acid wash let it sit for about 20 min, then applied a second dose of acid wash and let it sit for 15 min, then hosed her off and let her dry

Then came the por-15 and she looks purty:-*!

Hopefully I'll have the core support cleaned and patched by the end of this week and have my inner fenders/tubs/support brackets mocked up! More pics to come!

Allright, so its been awhile since Ive posted an update. Biggest thing I've been working on is repairing the front core support. The real rust spots were where the wheel tub brackets were welded in place. Ended up abrasive blasting it and cut out all the bad stuff and tacked in new metal

i wasn't happy the way the HF flux core mig welder was doing so it was time for an upgrade
IMG_3029.jpg

Im still not totally satisfied as it still needs a little more work but heres what it looks like now.
IMG_3070.jpg

everything is mocked up on the front end. Best advice I got was from a body guy I know and he said, to square everything up, put your hood on and square everything up to your hood...took a few times of lifting it up and down but we got everything looking good.

Well today I recieved a few goodies from JBG and TBP and I'm pretty excited to keep this project going through the winter. My dads shop isn't heated so I'm going to section of an area of the barn w/ some visquine and use my propane heater to heat that area! Hopefully I don't burn the place down lol! I'm pretty excited how these black chrome door handles look and I want to re chrome all the other window trim this black nickle color! I was referred to advanced plating in Tennessee and was wondering if anyone has used them? If so let me know what you think!

I'm actually working on this fine Gem up in oceana county! My dad has a 40x40 barn w/ a hoist about 10 mi E of Pentwater/Silver Lake. The only downfall is it's not heated so it gets cold quick trying to work in the winter. I should have ample space to place a heater for us to keep warm. I'm eally hoping to have this body done by spring so I can get some paint on it!

working on installing my door post! i feel like I'm venturing into uncharted territory and I'm afraid that all the work I've done on the front tub is not going to be right and it's all going to go to hell lol. Well with that said i did a loose fit test and I'm def going to have to trim some things, plus it was the end of the day and I had just finished tacking the front tub and supports together so we jut threw the fender screws in to see where we landed and this is the result. We're not off by much but I did some homework and dug up the handy reference chart and we'll be back at it tomorrow! any pointers would be appreciated...follow up I checked position on the fender holes/slots and the fender was pushed all the way back. I have at least 1/2" of wiggle room to push those fenders forward so I should be ok.
