Thanks. Ordered all of brake lines and other braking parts to finish that up. Was supposed to come in on Friday but was on a train that derailed in Cali. Should be here today. Hope nothing got bent.

Update

Well I thought I would update this build. A lot of plans have changed and I think I have it going in the right direction and eventually getting this bronco finished.
I ended up buying a 2001 Explorer from a friend still running back in January. The initial plan was to just take the intake from the Explorer and put it on my engine. I will be running the 4R70W transmission as well. Unfortunately my girlfriend totaled her 2012 Chevy Cruze and didn't have a car as she wants to save some money before getting a new car. Im letting her drive the Explorer till either she's tired of it or I'm ready for it. This week I decided to go ahead and sell some parts I'm no longer needing and have had pretty good success with that. I have met some really nice and knowledgable people including Damon Hopper and Jeff Lillis (Green76). I made the decision to use the entire Explorer engine and sold my Bronco engine to Jeff for his 66 build. Im going to take my 5.5 lift down to a 3.5 and got the front springs in last week but waiting on the rear leafs from BC Broncos. Im still going uncut and gonna run some 33's on it with a 1" BL. Should help with clearance on the intake as well. Today I placed an order for a new steering box and track bar. First step before adding the new lift and steering will be getting my body back off the frame and making a frame for the body to sit on till its ready to be put back the chassis. Then new lift and measuring steering. Next Im hoping 16x8 MT classic 3's clear the heim joint steering I plan to run. My biggest hurdle I believe will be fitting the return-less stock Explorer pump into a BC tank. Gonna take some modifying but I think it can be done. Engine will be last as my GF will be driving it for the time being. Ill try to keep this thread updated as much as possible as progress ensues.

Explorer tear down started today. My GF got a very nice 2 door Jeep this past weekend. Meaning the explorer was all mine. I got most of the engine side harness out minus the trans part which ill get when I remove the engine. The dash is mostly removed and Ill work on the ECU bracket some more tomorrow. I hope to have the engine and trans out by the weekend if all goes well and the rain holds off. More progress tomorrow.

Exploder Engine is Out!

Got some more work done on the Explorer tear down these past two days. Yesterday I removed all of the front dress and got the upper intake off. Today we remove the gas tank to get to the fuel pump. After getting that out and smelling like gas it was time to start seeing what all was still holding the nine in. Other than a bracket holding the exhaust to the trans snubber it was pretty easy going. Over all I can't think of anything that difficult on getting this done. It went pretty smooth. Saturday Ill take the Explorer to scrap and then next week Ill start the clean up on intake and brackets with some paint maybe. Enjoy the pics.

Wow that is a big change in direction. What plans do you have for the explorer motor? Rebuild, etc or just clean it up and paint it? I can say after doing some serious research and playing with dyno results, the stock explorer cam is anemic for what it is. I am certain it is all to do with emissions is why Ford went with GT heads etc. to get power where they could but they really cut it back with the cam. An HO cam (and HO valve springs) in that motor will give you quite the performance boost over stock, and still be EFI friendly to the explorer brains etc. Might be worth a good look. Nice build!

Thank you. It was a big change but Im glad I went this way. Im gonna break it open and have the machine shop check it out. Ill have them clean it then see what needs to be done. I was looking into a cam for it but wasn't real sure. I read a thread about a comp cam that will work pretty good so I plan on doing that after some more research. If anyone recommends anything I'm all ears.

I got as much as I could from the Explorer I might need including the shift cable for the trans and throttle cable. EFI Guy will be taking care of the wiring for me. Get the EFI engine out isn't that bad. Pretty simple job. I started with all the wiring then went after the engine/trans. Hope your swap goes smooth.

Today started with getting the gutted Explorer on the trailer and off to the scrap yard. Im $159.00 richer. We go the engine and trans separated and then the engine on the stand. Took it down all the way leaving just the pistons and crank. Lots of IDing and plastic baggies. Off to the machine shop on Monday

thanks, I'm going to try the wiring myself, but I've already talked to garry just in case I get stuck. One great guy right there! I want to send him everything but he's bout 3 months out and I'm shooting to complete mine before Jeff's BG show. So keep up the good work so I can reference yours lol!

Today I got the 4x4x2 steering box installed with the BC Bronco frame reinforcement kit. Pretty easy other than notching the new sleeves and making them fit good. I had to cut the plate down a bit to fit between the Duff hoops and body mount.

You've got it heading in a great direction. You're going to like that steering box. I loved mine and had to cut it just like you did. If you're using a Delphi pump, watch it carefully for foaming. Mine really acted up for a while before I found the level it wanted to be at. Nicely done sir! And I completely agree with you're final lift choice.

Probably sooner than later... I am now the proud new daddy of a 10 mo. old son and I need another Bronco we can pal around in. There is a guy I know with five old EB's on a ranch near my hometown that I keep trying to get him to budge on. I hope I can get them all soon. Can't wait to start my next one. Yours is really nice and I'm very impressed with it. I'll be tuning in closely. Maybe I'll steal some of your ideas.

After the weather holding up the delivery of my Duff Heim steering I finally got it put together and installed. Also got a 17" Mickey Thompson wheel in for a test fit. Everything clears with room to spare. Have some tires on the way and should have them mounted up by Saturday if all goes well.

Mounted my wheels and tires on the frame today. Waiting to get the explorer engine back from the engine shop. Are there any recommended upgrades for the internals of a 4r70w?

Those are the original '76 knuckles?

Reason I'm asking is that since they angle farther out and higher up than any other Ford Dana 44 knuckle if those clear then any other knuckle will clear.

I'm using the same wheel and was hoping that I wouldn't regret my choice when I convert to disc brakes.
