I know we're in a bit of a desert in this region for Broncos, but that there's a few of us around. Thought I'd bring it to the community.

On April 12th a senior at the school I teach at was struck by a car while riding his bicycle. I don't know many of the details, but I do know the driver fled the scene and the kid has been in the hospital ever since, with a fairly severe prognosis. Last I heard he was able to sit up and smile.

Several benefits to raise some funds for him have been ran in the last month or so, the latest being a car show coming up on June 2nd (Saturday).

It's being hosted by John Truman of Truman Muscle Cars, a local restoration specialist. John finds himself often in the news for various things, one being to push the state to retain more of its technical schools for tradesmen and other things such as donating time to getting nurses and doctors to work during blizzards using 4x4 vehicles in his group. A good guy and a good guy to know.

So, I know it's short notice, but if anyone is in the area and is interested in attending here are the details from the event:

Show and Shine
June 2nd: 10-2pm
Rain Date: June 3rd 1-5pm

Beacon Church
420 Sixth Ave
Galloway, NJ

NO REGISTRATION FEE
ALL MAKES AND MODELS WELCOME
ALL VEHICLES MUST BE INSURED

ALL DONATIONS FROM THE EVENT WILL HELP SUPPORT NIK IN HIS RECOVERY

Here's a YouCare site page made up for Nik, also gives some pics of him and a look at what he was into. I never spoke to him or had him in class, but I knew him by site and we always nodded at each other in the hall. He was your typical strapping surfer dude.

Sad story. Had a similar such event happen 3 blocks from my house just about a year ago, 14 yo kid didn't make it. Even though it was the middle of the night I feel a little guilt that we didn't know it was happening every time I drive thru that intersection.

Too far for me to be there, but added a little to the funds.

Wow, amazing thanks folks! At the event I'll be sure to send out some thank yous to the EB community!

That's a shame nts. I know exactly how you're feeling. Even though there was nothing you could do the proximity can sometimes make you feel somewhat responsible.

When I'm not teaching I guard oceanfront (yes we do actually save people. A lot). We lost a kid in an after hours rescue (no guards on duty, 911 requested vet guard team and we responded). I was one of the first 2 rescue people on the scene, saved about 15 people that day, one had gone under before 911 had even been called. I don't feel responsible, but I still have guilt I was somewhere else when I could have saved him.

I'll let the folks at the benefit know there's an outpouring of support from the EB folks.
