I believe it was Straight Line Steering in San Jose on Phelan (or maybe Alma?) near Monterey Road.
But when does the noise happen? If it's all the time, or when steering (in other words, at any time) and it sounds like a whining noise, that's usually air in the the pump, cavitation in the pump due to some fault or wear, or simply a worn out pump.
I suppose it's not impossible for the noise to be create by the box, but even then it might still be air in the system.
What did you adjust and how did you do it? The only "adjustment" on the box is for initial preload only, and can only be used after that for the removal of just a tiny amount of free-play in the mesh. And it would never be used to rid the box of noise.
The main issue with that adjuster though is that, if you don't know how far to go, you could cause the box to see excessive and excessively quick wear to the point that you will be rebuilding it no matter what.
So use that screw with care.
Ok, so maybe I'm being a bit melodramatic, but the comments are not without at least some merit.
Can you describe when the noise happens?
I'm certainly not a steering guru, but in my experience the only "gear whine" noise associated with a hydraulic steering setup is the pump.
Or air in the system.
Good luck.
