What do you use to "paint" your frame

I hope you put something else in there to stiffen up that front frame, No crossmember, lol

%) I'll give you bonus points for noticing, but the 2x3x.375 bumper with .375 bracketry is more than adequate for the job at hand.

I used rustoleum rusty metal primer and black semi gloss with the body still on. Came out great. I was able to an aerosol for the hard to reach places and it blended well with the brushed parts. I used duplicolor undercoating for the fender wells.

I used Eastwood products. Satin Chassis Black and internal frame coating. Holding up good, but Bronco is pampered. I initially approached the restoration trying to just do stuff with the body on the frame. Laying under it with wire wheel and such. Very miserable work for one. And you can't get it right. Finally my Bronco looked like this and then every piece of it got reworked.

While we used different products to coat our frames I agree with JAFO--take the body off the frame. It's actually pretty easy. I think I'd pull the body to remove the transmission/transfer case but I've only pulled them with the body off.

Here's some pics with the body off the frame. It makes it sooo much easier. I did my frame in six months but I did absolutely zero body work.

I don't have the luxury of pulling the body off the frame everyone. That would be easy and wouldn't need a post. I've had a rough day and appreciate everyone's input, but can we stay on topic? Sorry, Jim

In your initial post you asked "Can it be done with the body on?". We are just responding with opinions on that. Nothing negative meant by my post. Really just being honest and trying to help. I was just conveying that I first attempted with the body on the frame and the job totally sucked and the results sucked. When I first bought my Bronco I approached it as a mechanical restoration. I laid under it wire wheeling with goggles and breathing mask and then painted on chassis black. Later I realized all the body problems and started on the body. A year or so later all the chassis black had started to flake off the chassis because I just had not prepped the surface properly. I finally decided I wanted my Bronco as perfect as possible and separate body from frame.

Of course it is all up to what kind of results you are looking for. My opinion is sure you can do it with the body on the frame, but it will turn out not as good. But again, opinions are like assholes and everyone has one. I sandblasted my frame and the coating is holding up much better. But, true, mine was never and is not a daily driver. You're going to give up something either way you go I suspect.

MISF did it, but not as a DD. You don't unbolt Scouts because then the rust that the body was stamped from falls apart. Used POR-15 by the gallon. Had some interesting "Rorschach tattoos" for a while. Between the frame and the underside of the body I'll bet he was at it for a couple of months. That was over 20 years ago now. Still looks good, albeit a bit less clean. BTW, he's more than a little OCD AND A-R!

I totally get that. And I would if I could. I'm just trying to make it as nice as I can until I can do a frame off.

Which is why I think Rust-Oleum is a better choice.
Why put something on it that will be much harder to remove when you do the frame off?
Why put something so much harder to get off of you on when it is only temporary? And it will get on you when you apply it while laying under the Bronco.
