Well, almost exactly a year after I bought it, I am going to sell it. Here is the '72 Sport Explorer. It would make an awesome daily driver, but I just don't need another truck. Since the pictures were taken, the rust in the floorboards was treated and painted with code-correct Hot Ginger paint. I have also replaced front and rear gas tanks, all fuel lines, wheel and axle bearings, brake cylinders, brake drums, brake springs, hoses, and the belt. New tires on nicer (repainted) wheels. New carb, have original carb. The new rear tank is a 23-gallon from Bronco Graveyard.
As many of you will remember, I bought it at $11K, plus an additional $1K for the interior that the previous owner bought. I have put a good bit of money into parts and work after that... not trying to make money on this deal.
I will borrow heavily from the original ad from when I bought it:
This Bronco has been on Beaver Island, MI since the 80's. The Island is 13mi X 5mi and it's population is only 657. Needless to say the ole girl wasn't driven much and has 93K miles on the clock. Frame is good, no scale or holes. Rare tan seat belts. Top is in good shape, good headliner, good wiper cover and visors.
Here's the skinny. This Bronco came out of Beaver Island, MI, which is a very small island in the Great Lakes. It was there for at least the last 20 years. That explains it's low mileage and good condition.
It is original paint (except maybe hood), uncut and very original. I'm spending a few days cleaning and getting to know her. I'll offer if to the list. It is solid, but there is some rust in the front and rear floor seams, nothing major, the outer rockers have some rust behind the rocker trim. The door posts are good, and the doors don't sag. Everything under the hood is either original or OEM, new clutch, everything seems to work. The axle code is 4.11 with Trac Loc.
This model was the most deluxe Bronco available in 1972. It has window brightwork, beltline trim, rocker trim, stainless vent windows, headliner, spare tire carrier, upgraded interior. Seats need recovering (I got a price of $630.00 for f/r OEM seat covers), door panels and arm rests are good, and unique for this model, dash pad has 1 small crack, dash is cut with aftermarket radio, OEM steering wheel with deluxe horn ring.
