Rather than start a new post every time I have a question, and I'm sure Ill have a lot, I thought I would just keep this thread running throughout my project. Hopefully this way I can still get great feedback and opinions from members.

For full disclosure, I am not a mechanic, and this is my first Bronco. I have done a fair bit of wrenching on trucks, but that was years ago. Just finished my dream garage/shop with a 2 post lift a few months back. My son and I already did a full Total Chaos long travel kit on his Tacoma... thank god for the lift.

I found a really nice 68 that was already totally disassembled other than the body on the frame and axles. The parts are all in boxes, but I suspect Ill be replacing much of what is in the boxes anyway. Putting something back together that I didn't take apart is a little overwhelming HA!

Plan:
68 LUBER - lifted but original look. Street and mild off roading.

New paint - completed

3.5" SL + 1" BL
33" tires (255/80/16)
331 or 347 crate
Ford EFI
Explorer serpentine
NV3550
Dana 20
4.11 gearing

It already has an old front disc kit, and power steering.

Installing the lift right now. Deaver spings and leafs with Bilstein 5125's.
Drop pitman arm
drop track bar bracket
adjustable track bar
4 or 7 degree degree C bushings
Maybe move rear axle back an inch?

Nice project...cool color.

FWIW, instead of running 4.11's, I would probably run 4.56, 4.88 or 5.13 gears with the drive train combo you're suggesting, otherwise you're geared for 197 MPH at 6000 RPM in overdrive, not that the aerodynamics would ever let you get even close to that.

55 MPH would be 1680 RPM with 4.11's, or 1995 RPM with 4.88's.
65 MPH would be 1986 RPM with 4.11's, or 2358 RPM with 4.88's.

Most 331 or 347 strokers are not going to like to idle in 5th gear sub-2000 RPM, especially if you cam them for 5500-6000 RPM redline, although the Explorer EFI should help.

Thanks Tobin, I'll look into that.

Any recommendations for which radiator matches with my set up?

When it comes to radiators I tend to think bigger is better ;)

What are your opinions pro/con on floor options? I’ve heard without some kind of insulation like Dynamat that Broncos are really loud inside.

Just Rhino lining ?
Vinyl floor?
Carpet?

Check out the power steps Bronco Loco sells occasionally. They help with the height.

Hey, it is Jamie from InstaGram! Super cool build, I really like the direction you are going with your build. I am trying to figure out my suspension and motor choices right now I am a month or so away from a total tub rebuild from scratch. I have a new frame being delivered the end of January so I have some time to source and do things really right. This is my first Bronco build so I live on this site daily for inspiration and support.

Hey Jamie, sounds like you have a great project. I’m not an expert like a lot of guys on the site are, but I can certainly answer any questions you have about the research I’ve done and the choices I’ve made. I also have a local Bronco builder who has been really helpful with decisions on what to do and not do. Happy to help if I can ... Dan
