Wish I had torque numbers on fireball II cam! Anyone try a E303 cam in later 5.0? Guessing it higher rpm cam also.

I'm using hat cam in my 347 with promaxx aluminum heads.

Pros it has a great idle, power is on off idle, I am Max torque (425) at 2800 and it pulls hard past thatcause hp is climbing all the way to 4000 maxing out at 400at 3750.

Cons motor is not silky smooth at cruise, makes any lugging below 1200 annoying, cruise is ok but would be more enjoyable I find the motor was smoother. The trade off for the idle basically.

Ive built the same motor with an HO cam and GT 40p heads and the numbers are about 30 hp &tq off but they are silky smooth, max tq is all in at about 2500 and max hp is all in at 3500.

The '93 Mustang Cobra got GT40 heads and a much more aggressive F3ZE-CA cam. Torque is the last thing Ford was looking for. It only produces a wimpy 280 ft. lbs. and that was at 4000 RPM. A 351 that put out 328 ft lbs. at 2200 RPM is far more useful in a truck. I have yet to find a maker of so called performance cams, heads, intakes, etc. willing to talk about how their products work at 1500-2000 RPM. Of course we all know, there's no replacement for displacement. A junk yard 351/5.8 can be had for a few hundred bucks. A 408 build is going to ding you for thousands.

I have never driven a 93 Cobra, but in my research on the F3ZE cam, it appears that cam favors torque more-so over higher HP. Not only was this cam used in the 93 Cobra, it was also used in mid 90's 5.0 Tbird & Cougar, where the additional torque was appreciated by a heavy boat sedan. I've researched this cam quite a bit after the person who chipped my Mustang EFI EEC recommended it for my setup if I ever get in that deep in the engine, a 351. I will try to find this chart that I've found online that shows spec and applications for the different Ford factory 5.0 roller cams, it clears up a lot of info in 1 little chart.

This one maybe?
Does not have the Explorer cam, but all before it.

The '93 T-Bird was the last year for the 302/5.0. It never made it to the mid-'90s. They had a curb weight of 3700 lbs. is that a boat? The mid '93 T-Birds and Cougars are the only ones that got the Cobra F3ZE-CA cams. The torque output was a decidedly unimpressive 275 ft.lbs. at 3000 RPM. The 5.0 HO did better with 300 ft.lbs. at 3200 RPM. The power band came at a lower RPM than the '93 Cobra. That's likely because the T-Birds didn't get GT40 heads or 1.7 roller rockers. The HP was down to 200 or 35 HP less than the Cobra.
All these 302/5.0s are sorry truck engines compared to the 351/5.8 roller engine, at low 1500-2500 RPM where an EB lives.

I'd call that mid 90's, sorry I wasn't exact enough on year. Yes it is, sorry I left the weeds patch a while ago. Yep, that's why I built a '95 based 351 roller motor with some good parts thrown at it. There is no replacement for displacement....and rollers.

I think my motor came out of a 88-89 Mark VII. Says 225 hp HO. I wonder what cam they used.
