I've been looking for a tow rig for awhile, either a Diesel RV or a Powerstroke truck. Something to pull a camper trailer/ haul trailer like Mark East pulls, or else a slide in camper with car trailer combo for pulling the Bronco. Our F150 pulls the Bronco around but can't handle a larger combination.
So the other day I saw this truck parked by a house, with a faded For Sale sign in the window. I stopped, visited the lady who told me it was her husband's truck. They were snowbirds and have another place in McAllen, Tx, but he died last March and now she's selling everything to move to South Texas to retire.
We looked it over, drove it, and everything seems solid. It's got 134,000 miles, 7.3 Powerstroke, automatic transmission, and has new tires. It's 20 years old, needs cleaned up badly but is in decent shape for it's age, and the price is right. We had one like it when we lived in Wyoming, and regretted selling it.
We made a deal with her, just need to go pay her and bring it home.

Cool low mileage find! Put a Ford Heavy Service air filter and filter box on it, and a 6.0lPSD tranny cooler and you'll be set for lots of years of service.

The old body styles are highly sought after. That's no miles for a diesel. The International 7.3 was advertised as the million mile engine. Leave it stock ( get some stock tow mirrors and sell those superduty ones) and always perform the scheduled maintenance, and you'll get many years out of it. I have a 2002 7.3 ex cab 4x4 with the factory 6 speed. it is completely stock. These trucks are very heavy...over 4 tons empty. Don't think it will go where the bronco will!

My previous 97 HD took me on some amazing trips. The best one was from Kansas to Fairbanks Ak in winter, towing a 22' trailer.
Also to California, Florida, and everywhere in between. It was a beast.

If I can figure out these damned Colorado emissions rules, to know if I have to get an emissions test from the seller at the time of the sale....
She lives in Weld County, I live in Adams county. Weld is exempt, Adams is not.
Any fellow Coloradoans know anything about emissions tests required at the time of purchase from an individual?

Traded my 96 for my 11 and still kicking myself in the ass for it, love those OBS Powerstrokes. The 6.7 is an amazing engine though, I have to give it that.

I ordered a new '97 PSD and put 240K miles on her or so. She was a great truck. Only thing I didn't like about it were the glow plugs. They just didn't seem to last long but that was a PSD thing.

Nice buy. As mentioned before the 7.3's run forever. Just keep the fluids and filters changed as per factory recommendations, and you'll be good to go for a long time.

The seller provided the original tailgate, aftermarket tuner, & factory mirrors.
Still looking it over, so far so good. I found the original window sticker in the paperwork and learned it's a XLT. I found a receipt for the tires from Discount Tire. The tires were bought in 2011 at 131000 miles, it now has 134,000 miles, so 3,000 miles in the last 6 years. So I guess they are "new".
I doubt I'll ever wear it out

I had an '85 F-250, then a '95 F-150, then a 2008 F-250. At that point I upgraded to a 2002 F-350 and finally to a '97 F-250HD. I'll never own any truck newer than that again (unless something REALLY changes).

My '02 has the PowerStroke while my '97 has the 460. For my use the 460 actually is cheaper to run (slightly worse mileage on slightly cheaper fuel). But the PowerStroke mileage didn't fall off as much towing, so it would be cheaper to tow with (and has a lot more power, especially at altitude).

But for a group of people who get offended when Fords are called Jeeps, why are you calling this Ford a Chevy? Extended Cab is a GM term. This is a SuperCab.

Do you know where I can source the Heavy Service air filter and box?
It has an aftermarket K&N filter and box, and it's a nasty mess.
