Is an aftermarket oil pan required for a 4.0" stroker motor. Or can the 351W pan the vendors sell be used?

Any stroke that does not require a custom made block with wider oil pan rails should not need a custom oil pan.

A 4.100 and 4.250 crank will fit in a 351w stock block with clearancing and only a few aftermarket pans work with those stroke cranks.

Yeah, I should have said custom modified, not custom made.

I went with a Crown Vic pan from the vendors. It needed customizing for high volume oil pump clearance.

I've wondered about aftermarket oil pans for this application.

Adding things like windage trays can also create the need for modified pans. Been there, done that (stroked high RPM 5.0)

In general I would say pick a pan you want to use and see if it fits. It probably will. If there is a clearance issue, most any other pan will also have that same clearance issue.
