I wish I had unimog axles. Two front ones so I could have 4 wheel steering.

Those look like 404's. Totally usable but can be quite expensive to build once you've factored in converting to discs, pinion yoke, etc. On the up side though, huge clearance with relatively small tires combined with 1.5 ton-ish running gear is an awesome combo. Most rigs running them are full tubular (or very close to it) in order to keep the COG's low. There's a ton of info in Gen 4x4 and the Mog forums on Pirate 4x4 using those and the later Mog variants.

I checked it out today and took a few pics....

I want to get them because I may not have another chance here on this island to come across another set but then again it will be like opening another can of worms.....

Just when I start making more room in the garage I come up with deals like these.....%)

OX is definitely the 'go to' guy for mog questions. He's been running mogs under his full-size Bronco for years (making it almost as capable as my rig..:p ) and is putting mogs under that evil 400-powered EB he's building right now.

Unimog 404

You can get everything you need as far as seals and bearings from Expedition Imports.

The fact that they don't appear to be leaking from the portal boxes means you scored!

On our black Bronco we left them full width went with a disc conversion to 8 lug, used H1 rims without changing the backspacing we ended up with 83-1/2" sidewall to sidewall with 39.5 X 13.50 IROKs.

A good set of 404's will fetch around $1500 to $2500 depending on their condition. Those look like they are in good shape. It takes a ton of work to put them under an EB as they are. The pinions are very long and get in the way of everything and they are higher up in the air because of the portal boxes. BUT...they are way cool! :p

After doing A LOT of research, I decided to not use the 404 axles in their stock form. I decided to build a hybrid mog/9 for the rear. 9 inch center section with mog boxes. I converted them to disc brakes to avoid the common over heating problem and to provide better brakes. I turned down two stock long side axle shafts to 35 spline and I am running a Strange large bearing center housing with ARB. I am running a 2:47 R&P and then I have the reduction of 2.17 in the portal boxes. Now I can drive over a 5 gallon bucket and not hit it! ;D

What gear ratio do you have in the front D60 to match the gear ratio in your mog9?
edit.. found answer on your sig.. 5.13

patrick, How did you do that 9'' rear gear case. Strange dosen't make a High pinion 9'' But you seem to have one? Is this housing just flipped over. Are you running a reverse cut gear? If so what have you done about the side ? ring gear deflection support? I have not seen anything like this in a strange gear case.

he has a build thread on it on nor cal broncos. he flipped a stock strange carrier to get reverse rotation since mog axles spin backwards.

he has about a 70 page build on norcalbroncos.com, his axle build starts on about page 45 or so...
