I thought I could replace sheet metal piece by piece and it not take forever. After stripping everything down, my body guy, who I've come to trust implicitly, walked through all of the body with me, and long story short - It's worthless. Fenders and grill are good, but everything else needs to be completely replaced or rebuilt. He said it would be taking advantage of me to try to repair everything. And he's right. I knew it was crap but I was holding out hope.

I'm so tired of this damn piece of Buttstank Bullsh*t, I am truly ready to give up, sell it for parts and buy something new. The only threads of hope I'm holding onto is finding a good body, or buy an entire new "body" from dynacorn or somewhere.

Please do me a favor and don't try to give me encouragement and say "you can do it." I've been trying to fix this POS for 10 years when all I wanted to do was "fix it up."

I am so freaking angry, and I don't get angry.

What’s your end all goal? Show quality resto mod ? Or just a solid driver? Beach truck/trail rig?

If any of the last two options, patch that thing together and make it look decent. Bedliner the floors and drive the shit out of it and have fun.

If the body is really that rough you would be ahead to just buy one of the new tubs. Have you thought about fiberglass? Either would definitely speed up the process to being driveable. Have pics?

Oh I am sorry your bodyman is a dick, get a second opinion. If he didn't want to do it he just should have said so.

Dude, I've been there, like for the past 16 years.

<-see how long I've been a member.

I started thinking I could do the body work myself. Gave up on that. Though I just need the front end fixed, got someone to do that but now realize the back ain't that great.

I got quoted over $10k just to fix the back half of my cab, no paint, no filler. You can get a new assembled body for that much. I going to guess even to fix what you thought was small was going to cost you a good amount of dough. You can not sell what you have, add 10k, and get a rust free EB.

I know the feeling! My hood, windshield, doors and bed rails are the only original exterior metal I have on mine. Everything else was held together with thick bondo everywhere from a front and rear collision.

Since I didn't have money to pay someone else to fix/replace, I had to learn to weld and do body work myself...I went through 3 brand new quarter panels welding my original gas doors in the new panel.

So you want to sell your body and buy a bronco design's fiberglass one. Is that what you are telling us? Do you have any pictures of your body?
Oh man this is going to go bad quick.

10 years...even in it's current condition, whatever that is, you still probably stand to make money should you decide to unload it with the crazy prices EB's are pulling in these days. For some, it's the journey and for others, it's the destination, but with EB's, it's a little bit of both for me. I like working on mine almost as much as I like driving it.

From your previous posts I don't think your body was half as bad as mine and I replaced everything! Hell your a master craftsman of all things wooden, it's no different except metal is just a little tougher! you can do this man!

I am heading into my 36th year of eb ownership.

I have had it completely undrivable for a long time during stuff but won't do that again....been doing major work to it now for the last 25 year's and I always keep it drivable now....big part of eb happiness....

I know the whole PO situation sucks and all, but that being said I highly doubt the body is not worth saving. Believe me, I get to that conclusion much sooner than many. If the rear tub and cowl/firewall is okay its worth building.

Post some detailed pics on here for us all to see and judge. Then maybe you'll have a more positive outlook.

Worst case scenario: what Apogee said ^. My thoughts exactly. You're probably fine financially on this one, so if you do want to start over you won't take a loss on your initial investment.
Other scenario: Get a new tub - metal if you want real doors. That way you can correct other things while the frame is off and end up with a super clean classic.

Some people enjoy doing this sort of thing and some don't, and I will give you credit for trying to rebuild it. As said it can be rebuilt from next to nothing as a lot on here have done it. It can get frustrating some times and you just have to take a step back and do small things. I have seen your build thread/posts earlier on and your not afraid to tear into it. That is half the battle. If you truly are done working on it then one of them tubs from DelcoNick might be for you. They really aren't priced to bad and would save a lot of time. Sorry about your predicament and am sure it will work out. Ken

My take - have a cold one, and get a second opinion. I know you said you trust and believe in your body man but in order to validate your perspective about the situation maybe a second and third opinion would be valuable. I’ve been to doctors, even specialists who probably make several hundred grand a year and their assessment of my health was not accurate. Certainly they were smart, but not interested in my situation. I found others who were honestly more interested in helping me...so I moved on.

I'm not a "body guy."

Which is why I haven't touched my body except to pull it off to do stuff under it. I'd love to do a new steel body but that's $10K + $10K for body and paint (minimum). I'm just going to drive it and not worry (too long) when I put another dent in it playing with it hard. ;D

Best of luck from a fellow non-body guy.

I am an optomist by nature so I can understand your initial assessment. That said, if you are 10 years into this and haven't gotten past the body, you might want to consider a change in direction. Find a good used tub that doesn't need much rust repair and move on. Look everyday, everywhere and you will find what you need. Don't give up on the dream, just find a better path to it.

I'm kind of with you .. I see some of these guys rebuilding some body's that I say how the hell did they do that.
... I don't know how some guys replace these rotten door post.
. I'd say at this point find a replacement body. & SELL your left overs . Or pull the left overs from yours & Put into the new body.
I have a pretty good 68 body . But it need some floor work looks easy to me.
But I'd sold DuPOINT FOR 30 YEARS & I saw lots of replacements done across Central Texas ..
But I didn't do the work I just saw it being done . & Told them what to do with the paint.
