I have an oil bath air cleaner on my '67 Bronco. My question is whether there should be any kind of mesh element in it like I have seen in other engines using an oil bath. Thank you, Mark.
So in your filter, which looks like mine, there is no replaceable or disposable filter element to catch larger particles? Thank you for the pictures and help. Mark
There is a fibrous mesh material up inside the top cylindrical piece. You can see it in the photo. That mesh acts as a re-useable filter element. It's supposed to be cleaned with a solvent as part of a service schedule. I don't know the specifics of the Bronco servicing.
I have one of these filters and it doesn't look like the mesh is meant to be removed. The metal cylinder holding the mesh is sealed to the top of the air filter assembly. I'm not sure how you're meant to clean it. Immerse in solvent?
Hi, the mesh does not come out. We used to clean them ( only the dirtiest) on the safety clean tank.
If think the oil carries away most of the dirt.
If you think yours is really dirty you could probably flush it with kerosene or (be very careful) with gasoline. Good luck
Solvent or kerosene is best, been cleaning VW oil bath filters for years.
Flush well, shake well, set out in the sun to dry for the day or overnight if you can...
