Good question, Jon, and the saga does sorta begin with a beautiful princess. In lieu of the seven dwarves, this tale has a troll who wanted something to blow his hair back while he still had some left, so he bought the blue Bronco in which the princess and the troll rode toward the sunset on their wedding day. Here's another wedding pic, btw.
And it's amazing how quickly it happened Ken! The day of the wedding! (Since then, she hasn't aged a bit and I've aged for both of us!) Btw, that's also our ring (and fur) bearer also in the pic. Anywho, on with the adventure - So, time passed and seeds were sown and some were fruitful and multiplied and babies and grand-babies grew up and older and approached driving age. (pic below) Hmmm. Wanting to drive a Bronco age. Hmmm. The troll recalled that that last time he drove the blue Bronc the clutch pedal was propped up with broom stick (borrowed from his ex-wife) due to Rustis-itis and the rest of the Bronco even wasn't in quite that good of condition. (pic below) and the troll did not want grandlings driving an unsafe, will the wheels fall off before everyone falls through the floor Bronco. So, in true fairy tale fashion, the princess bought the troll a new, old Bronco for his 60th B-day! (pics below, the yellow & primer EB)
Thanks, Ken, I agree! Well, on with the story..... Hate to say it, I did not take any pictures for quite a chunk of time. Small side note, bought the Bronco from member here, Mike, aka Bronconut1 at the Spring Bronco Swap Meet. http://broncoswapmeet.com/ As to the lack of pics, I have nothing between time of purchase and the eventual on a rotisserie pics. Next, I want to bloviate about the F150 I bought and what I'd do next time. The pics are after sand blasting and epoxy primer.......
OK, about the F150..... I bought a 1987 F150 w/ 351W auto because I wanted to build a growl-y truly manly Bronco. In hindsight, I'd re-build the locked-up 170, bondo the rust holes and drive a fun little $5K summer Bronco. End of rant.
OK, just a little background info, and then on with the story. The title "Buck 'n' a Bronco" for two reasons: 1. 'Buck' was a childhood nickname. 2. When the suggestion of making and selling hood scoops came up, I pondered the business name "Buck 'n' Broncos". OK, moving along now, here's what I started with, sort of.....
The picture says Nov 23, 2014, so I guess I'm a lot slower than I thought I was, and more forgetful, too. Any who, discs at all four corners, Dana 44, Ford 9 inch, C4. Wanted a toploader 4speed REALbad, came close, but not to be.
I found some older pics of rust repair and will post them in hit and miss fashion as this build story moves along. Suffice it to say that I have almost as many irons in fire as I have voices in my head so I'll try to keep it simple (too late guy, that ship sailed long ago!) and keep somewhat current while dredging up how the Bronc got here bit by bit. Here's one of the three (tail lights, grill, dash and wipers) OK, four items I'm doin' now. Want to get the tail lights figured out so I can move on to the next items. Last pic shows the paint scheme direction I'm heading toward.
Just a little backin' up to show I did not start with a virgin. I built a rotisserie, had the body sand blasted and epoxy primed and then put it away for a few years.
Thanks Ken. Truth be told, it's more like sometimes I come close to adequate. As a member here consoled, YouTube is your friend. Also, experience and perseverance eventually win out. And the rotisserie was a HUUUGE help.
Nuther iron in the fire, working on the dash and gauges and knobs and cranks and switches. Really excited about how it's coming along, but there's a pretty big pothole in the road ahead that I'll have to negotiate. Hmmm.....
