...So late it's almost a '74.
It does not have the hooded transmission indicator on the steering column, but did have the '74 steering column bearings.
That kind of stuff is neat to me....

Definitely neat stuff.
So does it have the steering column AND dash mounted hazard switches?
Does it have a horn relay?

We've been trying to track just where those things came into play too. Not high on the priority list over the years, but it's knowing these little tidbits that's fun.

Thanks

Paul

I remember the last four Broncos on the Ford lot down the road here. All four were Rangers, in Blue, Orange, Green and Black. What a lineup that was!
Watched them sit for a little bit even there, but maybe it was due to it being the end of the run and all the new stuff already getting people's attention.
Watched them disappear one by one until they were all finally gone. Can't remember exactly, but I think they sat there for at least a month right on the street looking all fantastic and calling out my name.
Too bad $7000 was so much money at the time!:(

'74 should have started with S60,001. It would be interesting to see if it has any '74 unique features though.

Only the dash mounted hazard switch.

No horn relay.

This report answered one question for the old man and I.

The special paint code.
The lack of a paint code on the warranty tag.

We got it in 83 with a Ford Dove? Gray paint job from the Jacksonville Electric Authority, with New JEA decals on the door.

During what we call "The 80's restoration" we noticed some odd paint scheme.
Hood was dark green, fenders were white, doors were green, roof was white, etc...

It was as if they sat white and green EB's next to each other and switched out body panels.

Apparently this paint scheme was used by a couple municipalities.
Anyway....I remember my Dad and Uncle always wondered if it was done by JEA or Ford.
I knew that I had sanded through those top coats and found primer then bare steel, but a proper re-paint may have produced similar test results.

JEA's service vehicles went to a Dove gray in the 70's and my eb was a service vehicle for the power line "right of way trail crews" that need supplies or people ran out to them.
Some of these power line "right of ways" areas are still good trail riding ....

Seeing how there are not many U14's in this thread, I ordered a Marti for my old snow plow Bronco.

What I see that's interesting on my Marti is a "Retail Order"
According to Marti a Retail is – an individual comes to a dealership and orders an as yet unbuilt vehicle.
Why did it take 10 months to sell?
Left factory 12-13-71
Sold 10-20-72

My 71' says the same and never realized what "Retail Order" was until your post. Mine was released on 12/21/70 and sold 1/21/71. Wonder how long it took for the bronco to get from Michigan to Denver? Maybe a month from release to sold isn't that long.

Here are the most common order types from Marti web site.

Retail – an individual comes to a dealership and orders an as yet unbuilt vehicle
Stock – a dealer orders a vehicle to have available for display at his/her location
Basic – Ford has excess capacity on an assembly line and produces vehicles to keep the plant busy
Fleet – a company that orders five or more vehicles yearly qualifies for price breaks on these vehicles

My '77 has an order type of Fleet on the Marti report. I have all the dealer sales papers and traced it back to the original owner. He was a VP for a petroleum company and managed the Whiting Brothers Gas stations along Route 66. The Bronco was his company vehicle.

Thanks for the info and the good story.

Only the dash mounted hazard switch.

No horn relay.

Consistent with what I thought I knew from casual observation. I've been saying that the horn relays and the change to a column mounted hazard switch were a "sometime in mid-'74 model year" running change.
Never had any data on it though. Just that I'd seen some '74's without and some with.

Just got mine in email today. The list can be updated that there were 1,610 '76 Explorers.

Interesting that I can't find any factory documentation for the '76 Explorers.

I never knew that the padded dash and passenger seat were options in 1976.
I thought is was only an option in 1977.

I took a closer look at the '76 brochure and it does indeed list the passenger seat as an option for the base models in '76. Doesn't mention the dash though.

However, the Bronco data facts book (or whatever it's called) mentions the instrument pad as an option.
