Man that is a lot of rusty panels to replace.
You can always work on the chassis until you decide what to do.

Looks like a good project. Lots of rust to fix but if you take your time and do a small part of the time you will get it done

Actually it's not that bad. Hell none of mine looked that good at the start. You can prob patch a lot of the spots without ripping parts out completely. Plenty of guys around with old bed pieces and such you can use to cut the right patches out of. Don't get discouraged. Remember you were gonna save this one. You still can and your son will get a ton of knowledge helping you.
You can do it
Chuck

Hard top in Epoxy primer today after being sandblasted. I am leaning toward shooting Raptor liner on the inside of it for sound deadening purposes, plus I think I will like the way it looks on the inside as opposed to a headliner.

Looks like the beginning of a fun project! Don't get discouraged by the rust repairs! They look doable if you take your time! Good Luck with the build looking forward to seeing it come along! ;D

So I took out the interior today in hopes to find some solid sheet metal. Seems the previous owner decided fiberglass may was the best option. After pulling out 30 lbs of matting, resin and fiberfill, here is what's left. We will need to rebuild the whole tub. Kinda disappointed tonight. Gonna ponder on scrapping the whole thing altogether....

When I saw the first pics posted it brought back memories of mine and I ended up replacing 80% of the sheet metal. There are more guys building tubs these days so good luck or maybe you can find a good donor!

Tackling the axles currently. 4.56 gears, rear locker, front posi. Converting the front to disk using 78-79 Bronco Knuckles, spindles, caliper mounts etc. Also, patching up a couple sections of the frame that needed attention after it came back from the sandblast guys.

Great progress! Yep, similar to my starting point on the tub, mine might actually have been even worse. I am a big fan of the one-piece Dynacorn floor assembly. I do not have your welding skills so I think it was worth it for me. FWIW my body man works on a lot of Broncos and says the quality and fitment is great.

That's great to hear, I've seen their stuff in person and its of good quality. I've skinned a few doors with their door skins and havent had a problem so I would assume the rest of their product line is top notch.

Tonight I knocked the OEM door hinges apart, sandblasted them, put them in the drill press, opened the holes to 3/8” and purchased 3/8” shoulder bolts from grainger. Now, I will be able to unbolt the doors. Worked out great. 11 dollars and two hours later, I have 4 nice tight hinges.

The original hinge pins were worn out so bad that the doors would sag. This made the hinges like brand new and now the doors can be removed easily from the truck for the summer by just removing the pins eliminating the need to realign the doors as half of the hinge will stay on the truck and the other half will stay on the door. Just reinstall the pin and the doors are back on.
