if you read both parts I and II there are some good tips given. the price you mentioned is with them doing everything, steel crank, new ford racing sportsman block. cant argue with displacement, but not everybody can find a good 351 block to build and i would only build a roller block (flat tappet conversion tends to drive cost up on the 351). they actually offered this motor on their facebook page for 5K i think or close. I know blueprint offers the 408 for similar cost, but their block is used and bored. just thought it was interesting the numbers they got and the fact that they give all parts used (cam, etc).
I didn't mean to minimize the contents of the article...it really is a good article with more detail than is usual for that type of magazine build. It's also a great Mustang engine IMHO, but only a decent EB engine given the different needs for different applications. I know a lot of guys like their 331 and 347 strokers, but I'll stick with my 351W and stroke it if I'm ever feeling stuck in the slow lane.
That 331 motor was built for a mustang so it is a pretty good deal, based on my experience building these things, and that was back 10 years ago right?. Prices where different/higher back then. No, not a good fit for a bronco though, wrong cam, would use aluminum heads to help shed heat, etc.
My 347 is right around that price for the 331.
I just tried those exact valve covers shown on that 363 on my 302 based motor and they hit the firewall. Those valve covers also say you can't use stock Ford EFI, valve covers to tall. But that crate motor is a great deal, I remember seeing those priced beyond $15,000 ten years ago. Heck, I may keep an eye on that......

KBUCK, can you give us details on your engine, stroker kit, cam, heads, carb or efi? i have a new 5.0 block with less than 500 miles on it, always thought it would cool to stroke it and have a 327, just cause i dont like ch*vy that much lol
