Title say's it all!

I'm now thinking of getting painted bumpers and shortening them, well I guess until I change my mind!

I'm repainting my Bronco Massey Fergusson gray with an off white top and steel wheels. Was thinking chrome bumpers but love the looks of the shortened stock bumpers and at this stage not interested in getting the bumpers re chromed.

Also going to do a hidden winch coming out the front and modify the rear to fit my existing bumper.

I'm doing to much googling due to the snow and not being able to wrench on the Bronco ;D.

Here you go, before and after. It’s painted white now, don’t have good picture.

Your Bronco is so sweet!

That grey is very similar to the one I'm going for. I was on the fence about doing a black top/wheels etc or the off white. Girlfriend prefers the off white. Hopefully she stays around for as long as my Bronco!

Great photo's and it really shows me how far the stock bumpers stick out and I'm 95.46% sure I will now get the black steel bumpers to shorten.

Thanks.

I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but this is pictures of original paint white bumpers. I didn't realize how hard it is to find straight, not damaged, original paint bumpers. They are much harder to find than the chrome version.

Rattler is a plain jane Seapine Green '72. I like the bumpers full width rather than shortened, especially if the Bronco has flares. Plus, there is no way I'm going to modify a straight bumper....:)

No that is in fact what I'm looking for and your Bronco has a similar color white/off white I am looking at painting mine. So thanks.

I realize not many people have shortened their bumpers. You have pushed me over the edge and sealed the deal!

I have no problem shortening a $100 bumper ;D if I don't end up loving the look I can buy another ;D

It looks like your wheels are not color matched to top and grill or is that just the photo? If so I think it would finish off your Bronco, she is no plain Jane.

Here is mine... Not the best picture as it's tucked away in the garage...

How come you didn't paint the core support black? I think it would look a lot better behind the black grill. Would make it look more "blacked out", modern and sinister.

Oh and you do the powder coating right? You should definitely shorten at least that front bumper, would look so much better in my mind.

the whole tub is painted "desert khaki" I thought about painting or raptoring the core support but for now it's fine. I have too many other projects going on and shortening the bumper isn't something I want to deal with lol. I wouldn't worry what your girlfriend "likes" unless she's paying for it or there's a ring on her finger ;) . Do what you like!

Lol, you haven't seen her ass ;D And I'm not sure I'll ever make the mistake of putting a ring on it again.

But I also think the off white softens the grey. Good thing about tractor paint is that it's cheap and also a quick job to repaint the roof and grill surround/wheels, if I get bored or feel like changing to the black.

Here you go. Wimbledon White painted bumpers. Front shortened 4 inches per side, rear 3 inches per side.

Bumpers were shaved as well. I think shortening the bumpers looks a lot better - especially the front.

That looks awesome, thanks.

So you just cut off each end instead of cutting from the middle?

Did you then reshape the top and bottoms of the new shortened ends to appear factory?

By shaved do you mean the bolts were removed and there are welded studs on rear?

The wheels are actually 1974 vintage aluminum wagon wheels.... they are raw aluminum. The top is Wimbledon white.

No, I cut out 2 sections out side of the frame rails. The ends are factory.

Yes, by shaved I welded in studs to the top of the bumper to go into the top of the frame horn. The bottom bolts were retained.

I take it you butt welded it? Were the dimensions of the section you took out the same when you put then ends back on?

Was it hard lining it up and keeping it that way when you welded?

Do you think it an easy task for an amateur welder?

Thanks.
