I am removing the fresh air box, reworking the cowl so that it is flat on top on the passenger side (getting rid of the slope), and then will place it in the newly created space.

I wonder how much work it would be to extend the harness (yeah, I know... A lot!) so that the ecm and box could be mounted under an air box where the incoming air charge would serve extra duty to cool surrounding components. Such as a cool-box for the ECM.

It's a ton of work to lengthen one. Enough that I've sworn off ever doing it again. Also, crank and cam sensor wiring must be shielded with a drain wire.

There is enough wire to get over to the back of the passenger side fender, or passenger side cowl like Shoeslinger is doing. I'm currently waiting on pics from someone that made something similar to the BC Arctic Air box but mounted the computer inside of it as well.

Just finished mounting mine on top of the heater on passenger side. Tight fit between the slope for the fresh air and the center corner.

I’ve lengthened a few harnesses and mounted the ECM inside the cab. I extend the ECM lead 30”. Yup, it’s a bunch of extra work, but EFIguy gave me a tip. Source an Explorer V6 OBDII harness from a junk yard. I just cut the ECM lead off. They’re good for the added length, and most of the wires are the same color. I did one install with the firewall mount, I prefer extending the harness still. I mount the ECM on the passenger side kick panel.

For the guys running the earlier distributor type setups, custom harnesses are easier.
But for a little extra money up front you just get the Painless harness. Even the short one will reach practically to the back seat. With the long one you could probably mount the ECM in a trailer!

Mount Gasket

What is being used to seal between mount and firewall? Silicone, its a big gap
Using box out of Exscape, cut hole in firewall ready to mount.

My Escape box had a thick piece of foam on the back of it.

Here you go, quite costly though

Very nice! That's where I always thought the best place for an air intake on a Bronco would be. Coming up from between the back of the wheel well and the firewall.
Naturally baffled and protected.

How is your filter set up? Using a cone style on the end of the intake tube? Or a flat plate style in the new housing?
And that'll keep the ECU nice and cool at all times I would think.
What about moisture though? Is the computer protected from errant splashes up the space below it?

Thanks, The the filter is an oval cone style K&N and fits perfectly. The computer sits at the top of the box and I am hoping the inner fender well will protect it enough from splashes. Maybe I should have an extra ecu incase!
