I'm looking to buy an RC Bronco, I'm wanting decent speed and still wanna climb with it. Is there an all around or should I buy different setups to interchange for different conditions?

I just got and axial SCX10 Deadbolt, which looks like a Bronco enough for now. I will buy a Bronco body to put on later. The scx10 is the most popular chassis to build on right now.
There is also a vaterra that comes with a Bronco body, but it was $100 more than the Deadbolt. You can pick up bodies on ebay for cheap. HPI, Tamiya, Proline and Vaterra. Probably more also.

Generally, decent speed and rock crawling are mutually exclusive. This is because most electric RC's don't come with (selectable) multiple geared transmission cases.

Axial, Traxxas, HPI, Losi are some of the more known names.

In terms of marketing, Traxxas is the biggest name. While not the 'best', their stuff is adequate for a beginner, in addition you can buy parts at local Pep Boys.

Axial (& Tamiya to some extent) have been making dedicated crawling RCs for some time. I don't think you can go wrong with either, however my past Tamiya models have been somewhat fragile.

Regardless, as long as your not buying department store/bright horizons RC cars, most are of the hobby store brands are decent enough.

If you're looking to get into the hobby without putting too much money down, some of the rebrands are nice to start out with. RTR (ready to run), for <$150. Even these cheap knock offs will be much better than what you'd buy at your local Target toy aisle.

Stick with 1/10th scale. The smaller ones are fun, however it doesn't take very big rocks to befuddle them.

Here yo go. I purchase most my RC and part from here! Most of your local RC shops will have part for the axial brand because they are very popular!

Here are my current RC:

The first one is a 1/8 scale HPI Vorza that I modified to a VW bug basher. The F150 is an Apex 1/10 scale all wheel drive drift car and the the last one is a 1/10 scale Axial Wraith for crawling. I have a bronco body for the crawler, just need to paint it. All my cars no longer have the stock motor, ESC and recievers.

Your asking for 2 different trucks/ one that goes fast and one thy crawls. Even with a 2 speed tranny, there isn't one that will do both well.

Pick a more specific direction and you will get a more specific answer.

Crawlers: Axial, Vattera, HPI,
Go fast: Associated, Losi, Traxas.
Axial Wraith, Bomber, or possibly Yeti would be the do it all rigs if I was forced to pick one.

The best deal out there right now is the Axial RR10 Bomber. While it will have to be upgraded to make the two speed work it is still plenty fun out of the box. The Spawn and deadbolt are also my recommendations for a starting platform from axial.

Great answers to my pretty generic question! thanks!..so I guess I'm looking for a 1/10 scale with speed but I want 4x4 and I would like to build it or at least be able to upgrade and change things.I'm not looking to race but wanna throw some dirt and snow and do some jumping!

Mtgrizzlymn... those Broncos you have are exactly what Id like but with decent speed(which they may have?) and have you seen the sound box for these?

With a two speed and correct motor i think you can get a pretty good combo for speed and crawling! Battery means alot to! Dynamic concepts were the bodies the light green blue one is proline with back cut off and nose narrowed!

I am looking at getting into the hobby and like the vaterra and axial brands from the research I've done. I have an 8yr old son that I would like to build a rc with as a bonding experience. Is the $400-500 worth it in the end does it get old quick?

I think it is totally worth it. I’ve been into it 2 years now and my daughter and I still love it. I’ve made a lot of new friends from this hobby also.

I still like my Tamiya RC Bronco CC-01.
Not sure if they still make them? But then again I am partial since I have a red 73...

Just took mine out today. I go just about every Saturday, or at least try to. Sometimes we have a big group and sometimes it is just a few of us. Always fun.

Hey Savage,
No mine is an Axial. It started as a Scx10 Deadbolt.
The one in your link is awesome, but that’s a lot of money. Of course once you start upgrading it will easily be that price or more lol.
