I am running a 2 into 1 muffler with a 3" tailpipe between the frame and body and through the rock slider. (sorry no pics, they will be added to my build thread soon. I have a 2" B.L. but figured I could have made it work even with a 1". there are lots of choices of heat shield products to help control the heat however I don't think it's all that necessary.

I'm digging the side exit exhaust idea. I wonder if I'd need to put a heat shield just above the pipe. Just found this... may be too big for the Bronco rocker, but I think it would look pretty clean if I found one the right size

I've got mine dumping out at the rear bumper and even without a top on I rarely smell exhaust - the wind has to be blowing just right at me to smell it.

I've always liked that concept. That once looks particularly cool with the twin tips though.
I figure to use it in the rear corner though, instead of the rocker. I had nothing but trouble and too much noise with side exit, or under-tub exit exhaust to ever try it again. I'm glad you guys are having good luck with yours, but I've been choked out with dust and fumes way too often. Been there, done that. And don't want to again.

Might pop over to Stainless Works again to find what they've got that might work for me.

The best place to exit the exhaust is out the side behind the rear wheel. The cheapest is dump the exhaust down just in front of the axle. The down side of the out the side behind the wheel is while rock crawling you can crush the pipe closed and the cost. the down side of the down in front of the axle is you will blow dust up while you drive on dirt. I have not had any problems with fumes for either place. I have found that going out the rear will cause fumes to get inside even a tight hard top and turned out in front of the wheel is too noisy.

With a good enough muffler where the exhaust exits will have little effect on how loud it is.

My favorite spot has always been right in front of the rear tires. I have had 3 out of my 12 Broncos that way and I always like it best. I have never had turn downs though.

I'm running a 2 into 1 with a stage 2 Flowmaster and it is definitely loud, but I also have my floor and partial rear inner fenders cut out for the suspension so the noise has a welcome mat to come on in. I've never had any issues with fumes, though most of my driving is at speeds higher than a crawler.

I'm just about ready to completely re-fab the exhaust, keeping the pass. side exit where it is. The tubes are beat up from racing and we did some field repairs to the hangers this year that aren't up to par.

I'm running 2-1/2" dual's, in front of rear wheels.

That looks pretty good Kens_Bronco. I am also leaning towards getting rid of my AUX tank since I have one of the larger Sherman Tanks out back. That would make an exhaust like yours possible for me to replicate.

Good in what way? The short mufrler that will fit to come out in front of the wheel will either be load or restrictive. A good (quite) muffler can be had but it will cause back pressure. I think many want the extra HP that is lost with quite mufflers. Good for me is a quitter muffler even losing a little power. Anyway there is a down and up sides to all the options. I like the down before the axle but I have seen a cloud of dust cover a EB idling on very dusty trails.

Here are a few pics of my setup. It is a flowmaster 70 series big block II muffler with 2.25" inlets and 3" outlet. It is not loud but has a nice typical flowmaster tone. definitely has a performance exhaust sound.

I don't have any standard gas tanks anymore, but this exit location has been excellent for me for years.

After smashing mine when it was behind the tire, and then in front of the tire, I did this:

And a friend of mine, albeit his rig is a LOT nicer!
