She’s gone topless!

Wife came home just in time to help me get the top off, she actually said yes when I asked her to go for a ride (this is rare) then I looked at the radar oh Hell no!! Maybe tonight or tomorrow ;D

Nice Jeff... :)

So I finally figured out why my rig was sagging and Unlevel in the back, the 6 pack leafs were nearly flattened out. I measured 3” suspension lift in front and the coils were like new and found these 3.5” super flex leafs in the classifieds, installed them today with pinion angle shims.

Here are before and after pix; you guys think I should give it time to settle? Like after the summer plus fall/winter with hardtop (w/ glass) installed then see how it looks next Spring? OR just go ahead and order the matching 3.5” coils?

Any feedback appreciated -Jeff

Hey Jeff, You could put a couple heavy bags in the back for a while and see if it will settle. I don't know how much they will. Were they ever put on from the PO and are already settled? It looks nice from the picture. You really made that truck look good. Ken

Depending on who's coils you have up front, they may already be 3.5" and simply be within the normal tolerance level.
I take it you measured 10" between the axle and frame up front to get the 3" estimate?

But yes, it's likely they will settle some, or may just be at the normal height for being topless as is. That's how many Broncos act when you take the top off. Even with new factory springs.

I think it looks pretty darn good already, from this angle at least.

Thanks Ken, they were installed and pulled without driving by PO, went with 2.5" instead

Thanks Paul, maybe it will grow on me ;D

Yes I measured 10" from axle to actual frame tube (the shock tower that's welded on the frame measured at 9.5" from axle)

got home from the kids ballgames and measured again, 11 1/4" on the right, 10 3/4" on the left wtf!!! still has the rear lean. I'm thinking the PO jacked up a weld on a mount somewhere on the frame. Both sides of axle are equal distance from the ground.

Uh, it's a Bronco... That's how!;)

Paul

I get the whole 'it's a Bronco' thing, but 7" in front and 6" in back has been an undisputed rule of thumb in my short time here...I think an unexplained 1 1/2" is significant.

The springs still had the JBG part number on them so I know they're 3 1/2"

Yep, just messin' with you. Because I didn't really have an answer that would fit.
We know things flex around different when driving around, but it sounds like yours has just been sitting there, all nice and easy like.
Settling back up? That's not a common complaint around here.

What about the spring eye and shackle bolts? Did you tighten them all the way with the rig up in the air still? Maybe loosen them up a bit while waiting for them to settle on the height that they're going to be?
If you don't have locking nuts, you don't want to drive it this way. But if you have good locking fasteners, you can drive it around for a bit without fear that they're going to loosen up any further.

Paul

I ‘sprung’ for the matching 3.5 coils from JBG and it’s perfect...EXCEPT after I installed the leafs it made the the door frames touch the top of the windshield frame, and after I installed the coils I now have a slight driveline vibration. Always somethin

The good news is the steering is much easier and I’ve got at least a HALF INCH of clearance between the windshield channel BRacket and garage door ;D
