I was disassembling the T-case getting it ready to install new seals and gaskets and noticed something possibly wrong. I took the Yoke off the front output shaft and the nut had no washer, but did have a spacer behind the yoke. According to the schematic this spacer should be behind the bearing and high gear. I was going to post a picture, but don’t have url. The spacer I am referring to is #34 on Wild Horses catalog pg 140.

I haven’t removed this shaft as of yet so I don’t know if another spacer is in the proper location.

Seems very weird. I would do a full rebuild to make sure it’s right. It’s not difficult and doesn’t take very long.

Got it stripped down except can’t get the front output system apart. I can’t locate the snap ring. The end play is good and I can see the spacer in the proper location

Thanks

1973 is the model year that Ford / Dana transitioned from the T shift which had a snap ring to the J shift which did not have a snap ring.
There were 'hybrid' cases which had some parts from both T shift and J shift.

I am learning that the hard way. I was able to remove what was needed in order to reseal it. All the bearings are good, just need to see what additional seals are needed after I get the kit from WHorses

I have a 72 T- shift without the snap ring. Was supposed to have one according to some instructions I looked at. Just drive it out with a hammer and piece of wood. They come out pretty easy. I've got different lengths of hickory I use. Ken

Well the Gasket and seal kit from WildHorses does not include the O-rings. I did order a O-ring for the adapter. The O rings at the yokes are nothing special and I had some already. The impossible to find is the flat oring that goes on the intermediate shaft. I went to auto parts stores and hardware stores including Fastenal and when you ask for a square shaped Oring all you get is Deer in the headlights look. Anyway I ordered some from Amazon and the minimum order is 100, so if anybody needs some let me know.
