Well after years of abuse, my bronco needs some love. And I was told it needs to be in top shape for an appearance at wedding this fall. So I'm doing a build thread to stay motivated. So currently the bronco doesn't run do to about 13 holes in the radiator due to the dumb mechanical fan. So here is how it sits

So the starting plan is to replace the
Radiator and fan
Convert to explore serpentine system
Paint the pig

So I'm currently tearing into the motor

I got the front dress off and here is the doomed radiator

So I have been having some trouble with crazy rpm fluctuation last seasons. Well I found my issue the cam bolt backed out.

Today I put the new timing gear in this morning. I was worried about the new cam bolt rubbing on the front cover after reading the how to article. So I placed some play dough on the bolt to check the clearance and everything's seems to good. I'm using and arp cam bolt, I did have to grind the cam pin so the washer would sit flat.

Another successful weekend got the timing cover, water pump, and harmonic balancer on. Most things went smooth minus the fact that I always end up do something a bit different. So the balancer I'm using is an trick flow sfi one, and of course it's actually a larger diameter than a stock one. So I had to notch the timing cover a little, and clearance the water pump.

Well that went in fine, but I ran into an issue with an bc explore serpentine pulley. The harmonic balancer has a centering spacer for the pulley.

So it had to be trimmed down to fit correctly. Well about 30 mins on the mill, and things are fitting correctly.

Next business is to figure out the timing pointer.

Busy weekend I finally got the extreme mounts back in the truck.
While I was messing with the mounts I went ahead and pulled the atlas, way easier to get the motor mounts lined up and I need to install some new seals in the atlas

Got both serpentine brackets on the motor but, found I need a different bolt then the write up mentioned so off to order that.

I also have started messing around with timing pointer ideas, still on the drawing board but has potential.

Keep after it! Assuming you're gonna replace the fenders did you remove the front clip for easier access?

So a little update it seems like slow progress.
I went ahead a replaced some replaced the bearings in the upper idler pulley. While it was out I figured
99ffa7d70b76cd01b1470beb680d2cf9.jpg
I would sandblast it and paint it at work.

I also got the all the water pump hoses installed with a new water neck. The alternator is in place just needs wiring. Sanndmann3 hooked me up some bolts and pointer I was missing. But I ran into some issues with pointer hitting the balancer

So I went back to the drawing board for the pointer. Lucky I was able to use all the measurements of the stock one to print a new one up. So far it looks to work pretty well.

Now I’m just waiting on agr to ship my power steering pump, and for my radiator to get in.

what radiator and fan are you going to go back with?

so,a aftermarket balancer and pulley will work with the explorer spacing? what brand balancer and pulley are you running?

I'm fixing to be doing this same job...what fuel pump are you running? looking good!

I’m using a bronco hut oversized radiator. And for the fan I want to go electrical but I might throw a stock explore fan.

The balancer is a trick flow balancer, with a bc broncos pulley adaptor. I did have to clearance the timing cover an little to fit.

Got some work done last night replaced one seal in the atlas only to find they sent me the wrong seal for the front output. I guess another stop at the parts store.

Also finished installing a lokar dipstick tube came out pretty nice I had to make a bracket to hold it in place.

Also got my timing Pointer project completed. I still need to have the pointer machined but it will Work for now.

Well I figure I would update this to get some motivation going. I had the truck back together, but it started having some oil pressure issues. So I figuired before I destroy the motor let take it and get to the bottom of the issues. So out she went

So after talking to some friends, I decided let’s tear it down and make it right. So off to one of my Shooting buddies shop.

So the block is cleaned up ready for some machine work and then new shiny parts

So I have been working lining up the front end but so far have not been successful. What order do most go in? I currently have left the hood alone and lined everything up around it.

I like to bolt the front end sheet metal together and start fitting that to the hood. Your net gaps will be determined from that. You can shim the hood hinge at cowl to get the front of hood flush with the grill and you can move the core support left and right to adjust the fender to hood gaps. Fitting the front end can be challenging but at least you're doing it before paint so there are no surprises when time to final assemble. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice this helped me figure out my problem. I was test fitting with an older grill and seems someone cut it up at some point. So I decided to fix my original grill. The gaps came out much better.
