Ultra rare Bronco on Craig’s?!?!

In 1947 something happened in “the middle of nowhere” in New Mexico’s high desert. Supposed UFO aircraft and passengers were retrieved from a crash site near Corona, NM and transported to Roswell, NM. The term Roswell Incident🛸 was coined and the rest is history.

This week a Bronco popped up on Craig’s with no photos and a weak description in Corona, NM of all places!! The next day the owner posted pics and I immediately noticed a few possibly rare items I recognized as potential Stroppe Baja Bronco accessories. I’m not going to lie, my untrained eye was uncertain, so I waited to call the seller until I could do some research. Bad call on my part! I called the seller a day late and a dollar short! Oh well, live and learn! Might be a stretch, but I’m gonna call this the Roswell Incident 2018🛸!!

I snagged screenshots of the rig (VIN# U15GLM80501) for your viewing pleasure. I hope the buyer chimes in and shares his “new” acquisition with us and if the buyer reads this I just want to congratulate him. Enjoy!

Space cactus fan? (The band, once advertised in Bronco Driver)

Looks like a rough Stroppe. The paint line under the missing trim really adds to the confidence.

With the steering wheel & roll bar, I'm going with Stroppe.

It was a hell of a deal for a Stroppe Baja (Oct '71 build). I was the second caller and called shortly after reading the AT description. Of course I hoped it was a Baja but couldn't determine without the VIN, DSO, and pics. I got the VIN but never the district service order number. Still no pictures (seller couldn't send any and said check the listing on Friday) and only a VIN. The first possible buyer passed on it. I wanted it but couldn't get a flight until Sunday....well, of course I made the call as soon as the pics were posted but a guy from AZ beat me by minutes and was driving out in the morning. If he passed, I was back in the running. Obviously he didn't pass. Hope someone on here got it and can share more!

If you look closely you can see the hitch, AT cooler, and bumper braces behind the hideous steel bumper.

That’s an ambient temperature sensor. It was only installed on certain model years. It retards timing based on air temperature to help with emissions.

Honest question... it looks like just about everything will need to be replaced on that one. In the end, really, the only original things left might be the frame and title! I get that it's a Stroppe, but at what point does it become "not worth it" anymore?

He said that he’d only had it for a short time. He bought another car and wasn’t interested in restoring this one. He had NO idea that there was anything special about it.

Of course this happens when I'm in Florida and not looking as hard %)

At least it gives me hope that I can find one someday for less than Mecum/Barrett-Jackson prices.

We are on the wrong side of the continent to find one like this.... All of them back east have already been discovered.

must have been hit in the past as the front passenger fender is from an earlier model.
