Explorer non-return / BCB 23 gallon tank?

Just curious how people are dealing with using a BC Bronco 23 gallon efi tank with a Explorer returnless fuel system? My thought is to use the BC fuel sender and mount the pump/fpr to that, but was hoping someone had done it first and has pics;D

I have done that with that tank, not easy, that tank is a PIA to work on the pump. I use the BC pump and added the Explorer regulator to it, I didn't like that setup so I cut out the top of the tank between the baffles, welded on the Explorer fuel tank ring and just used the whole Explorer drop in setup, much easier to work on and if you need to remove the pump just remove the screws an pull the whole assembly out. That tank is really a poor design when it comes working on the pump. Don't think I have any pics, will look to see

How long did that take?

I know the drop accommodates raising the tank as high as possible against the floor board, but is it's depth also based on the depth of the Explorer set up you are putting in there?

How many gallons do you think you lost?

Sorry about all the questions,
I really like what you've done there Bud.

Be nice if the module was easily extendable. I wonder if there are other, similar design modules that happen to be taller because they're fitted to larger tanks in their original applications?
Such as a full-size pickup, or even a van, rather than an Explorer?

Of course, being at the end of it's run, the Explorer unit might have been unique in it's pressure and flow ratings, compared to other vehicles with different engines.
Just wondering out loud about something like a '96 Bronco, or F250 with 5.8 Windsor in it. Thinking the 460 trucks might not have used the same pressures, but no knowledge about those facts.

If nothing else, then perhaps an aftermarket unit that's adjustable for height.

Well today's thought is to use the sending unit pictured below. Remove it from the circular top and mount it to the top of the square access panel on the BC tank. Then mount the explorer pump and FPR somehow to this so when I pull the cover, the entire assembly comes out. What's the worst that can happen right:cool:

maybe 4hrs, not real sure, that included cutting out the section of the Explorer tank.

I know the drop accommodates raising the tank as high as possible against the floor board, but is it's depth also based on the depth of the Explorer set up you are putting in there?

the cutout is so that the stock pump setup will reach the bottom of the tank, also I have room to run the fuel line and electrical connections across the top of the rear frame cross member

How many gallons do you think you lost?
lost ~1.2 gallons

Good points DD, I havnt really looked at others but I sure it is possible, really only thing that would need to be changed would be the press reg, so it would have correct pressure, I think most if not all of the factory pumps are capable of 100psi

What's the price on that sender? You should be able to buy the correct sending unit straight from BC (or us for that matter) and not have to modify it. Just drill the plate maybe?

Or, instead of the traditional sender and removing the disc, simply cut a round hole and install one of the new senders that comes with our new M1A1 tank?
How tall is your tank in that area of the plate? If it's between 11.5 and 12 inches, that sender will read right down to the bottom.
At $79 bucks (#9668B), it's more expensive than the standard one. But probably easier to match up to the plate, odd shape and size tanks and not interfere with the pump and pickup too.
And maybe even get more consistent gauge readings at the same time?

Not 100% sure on all that of course, as I have not tried using that vertical tubular unit myself yet. But can't wait to try!

That sender is actually the one that BCB sells for in their 23 gallon tank. It’s kinda baffling though with the round top given the access panel is a square? It does look like it can be unbolted though. It’s $40 so not enough to worry about if I cant make it work. Figure I can strap a HP pump to it and plumb a regulator inline between the pump and bulkhead.

Hey Todd. Sorry I bailed out for awhile.
Nope, not on the site. Might not be at all, at least for now, since it's not really expected to be a separate part series unless there is more demand for it. Hence the "B" as a suffix, indicating it's part of another kit that can be tracked in the computer.

If you want to know availability and current pricing, you'll just have to call in with that part number in-hand. And if more info is needed, such as what all it comes with, someone can pull it off the shelf and take it out of the box and check.

Kind of a shame, as it would be nice to have it not only listed, but detailed out on the website for our study.
Might happen sometime of course, but for now you just have to ask about it by number.
