Is it possible to change out my gears (ring/pinion) without removing the housing from the truck. I really don't want to have to pull the front end again.

Is it possible?
Yes.

Easy?
NO

Don't be surprised if about halfway through you wish you had taken it out to work on.

Much easier to do on a bench or other flat surface, but as said, it can be done with leaving the housing installed.

I have done it on a lift but never on the ground. Just trying to get a good luck at the backlash and pattern would be a giant pain in the sphincter.

Yea agreed. Youll have to plop it in and out about 3-4 times when you're checking backlash. I would hate to have to do that on the truck.
