Sorry for the confusion, the coffee hadn't taken effect yet. Yes 2L, I accidently towed mine in 2L for a few miles at highway speed before realizing it. Fortunately it didn't damage/explode it.

I don't think $6500 is bad. It runs and drives and prices are crazy. Not as cheap as you'd like I am sure, but when you can drive it etc. that makes up for quite a bit.

I am the king of massive projects and it can be way more fun to do a project, drive it for a week, put another part on etc. than be stuck in massive jobs that need all your time and money for years.

Good for you.

So I looked over the bronco again this weekend and came up with the following list of what needs to be done. Some what in order.....here we go!!

Bleed brakes
New air cleaner
Tune up, change fluids, check plugs, wires, timing, adjust carb if needed, etc.
Windshield gasket and glass
Get it registered and drive it like I stole it!!!
Go over wiring, check gauges, lights, etc.
New auto steering column, right now it has the old 3 speed column rigged up to work with the C4, Park is all the way down, 1st is all the way up
WH integrated 1" body lift
Install front drive shaft, check 4x4 operation
Replace front floor pans
New door hinges, repair replace door posts, strikers
Drive it like I stole it!!
Replace rockers or go homemade rock skis just because I like the way they look
Soft Top
Family roll cage
Seats
Bumpers
3.5" WH suspension lift
Rims/Tires
Hydroboost with front discs
Power steering
Body work and paint.
Now all of this will take a few years or so but my plan is to have it drivable as much as possible and drive it as much as possible.

Yep, good plan to keep it as drivable as possible as often as possible. We've all seen what can happen when it starts to come apart for a big "quick" project!
Ten years later and it's "almost done" again!

Enjoy

Excellent, thanks!
I bet those old body mounts are toast if they're original. Gonna be interested to hear how easy/hard it was to get the old ones off. You just never know with these old rigs.

Have fun!

Looks like plan! My only suggestion would be move the family roll cage up to the top of the list somewhere, before you drive it like you stole it!! :)

Yep Okie, that is a good idea, good thing my brother in law runs a fab shop for a living..... and its located 100 yards from my house!!! Gotta get the body squared up, doors shutting properly then it will over in the shop getting a custom one installed.

Okay so last week we were at the county fair all week, the boys both took a pig to show and market. Did pretty well at $8/lb, which is the base rate thanks to the Wood-Clayessens Foundation. Anyway, got home last night and got a chance to dig thru some of the extra parts I got with the bronco. Okay first thing, looks like its not the original D-20 in the bronco. I got the whole 3 speed-D20 combo as a spare. Can anyone tell me if the serial tag in the pic is the original T case? Looks like a J-shifter D-20 in the bronco, at least it shifts like one. Aren't the front yokes different? Maybe that's why they didn't put the front driveshaft in? Something else I get to play with!!! I also got the stock carb and intake, as well as the rear lift gate and a bunch of other stuff I haven't gone thru yet. I don't think I am going to go with a hard top but time will tell. Thanks

Well it looks like your fun is about to begin! If you're going to replace the bumpers, you should sell the ones you have....to me for instance!

Had a productive weekend, got the old body mounts out and new WH 1" body mounts in. I have to say it is a hell of a lot harder when the bronco is all there. The last one I did only had the body and frame, no drivetrain. It took me about 4 hours total. I also got the passenger side floor pans cut out and new ones screwed in, just need to make sure everything is square, do the driver side next and then weld them all in. Also for my own sanity, I verified that the vin on the frame matched the body. It felt good to have a whole weekend to work on it.

I have been enjoying the bronco on the ranch, its kinda nice not having a windshield, makes shooting squirrels a lot easier!! Anyway haven't had as much time as I wanted to make it road worthy yet but I took my first step this weekend. The PO left the 66 3 speed column in and hooked it up to work with the C4 auto...... All the way down was park, then R, 3rd, 2nd, 1st. Guess it would be a good theft deterrent lol. I started the install of a TBP auto column. All has gone smooth so far other than dropping the shift lever spring in the housing after the column had been installed. %) After pulling the column back out, fishing the spring out and actually reading the directions on how to put it in, the column is back in. All I have left is to install the steering wheel, hook up the wiring and the shift rod to the C4. Then it will be time to get a windshield in place.

Anyone looking for a 66 steering column??

Glad to see an update. Man, that unique shift pattern would have made life interesting for sure!
Sounds like someone put the shift lever on the side of the transmission on reversed. That or they installed a reverse valve-body. Not sure how either would effect shifting exactly (with a column shifter) but it sounds like that's what you've got.

I drove my 66 around town once with the windshield down, bad idea. If I ever do it again I will wear goggles

Looking good keep the pics coming

I haven't gotten under the bronco to take a look at what they did exactly but I will be sure to post pictures. All I know right now is that the linkage was connected to the column with a couple wraps of bailing wire....
