Have you got your Slots mounted yet? ;D

No, I'm still saving up for the 2.5" Bilstein lift kit from Wild Horses. And a new set of 35" tires. I just order a 1" body lift a couple day ago. So one step closer to getting them mounted.

Great build thread and very cool Bronco!

Thank you. I haven't done much on the Bronco this year, other than drive it occasionally. My wife had neck/back surgery, we moved into a new home and in October my daughter was married. So a very busy year. Later next summer I hope to be installing the suspension and the the new slots.

Hi all,

Not much to report with respect to my Bronco. Still driving it occasionally.

We moved into our new home in August 2015. So I've been busy getting settled into the new place and working on new home additions. Such as a fenced in backyard, landscaping, planting trees, bushes and flower. Also building storage shelves in the basement and garage.

I've also changed my hobby focus, back to my Live Steam Locomotive rebuild. I need to finish this rebuild before any more work can be done to the Bronco.

See pic's in post 216, here.

http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177603&page=15&highlight=Nebraska

To accomplishes the locomotive rebuild I need to have my machine tools set up. So I'm in the process of building an enclosed machine shop in a portion of my garage. I have a 5 stall "L" shaped garage, so given the shape of the garage. I partition a portion to create a 15' x 17' machine shop space. I'm now well into the painting stage. so move in day is coming soon.

So with any luck I can get back to the steam locomotive rebuild this fall and have it finished by spring. Then I can get back to working on the Bronco. But for now I just keep it well maintained, out of the weather and drive it.

Fred

Time for another update.

I've finished my machine shop build to a point were its usable. So last week I moved in my machine tools and pulled out the frames (pictured on the two green tables) to my steam locomotive. So this winter I can get this thing back together. Its been apart for 9 years.;D

Last weekend I brought home a 1996 Explorer that was in a rollover accident. The engine and transmission have 188000 miles on them. As you can see from the photos it pretty messed up, but it still runs and moves. I've already made some progress removing some of the electrical harness in prep to pull the motor.

I plan to pull every thing I need for a full 5.0 EFI and 4R70w swap into my 76. I'm open to all suggestion of what I need to keep. So please lead me in the right direction before I ditch what remains of the explorer.

Fred

I made some progress last night removing the 5.0 motor and transmission. I manage to remove the engine bay harness, the front dress and upper intake. Pretty straight forward and simple with the exception of the fan clutch assembly. How do you get that sucker off the end of the water pump shaft?%) I can see that it has flats that accept a wrench, but how do you hold the pulley and pump shaft? Does the clutch have Left or right hand threads? I can see that I could wedge a pry bar under one of the pulley bolts and against the pump shaft to hold the shaft from turning. So I tried this turning the clutch as if it has standard right hand threads, but it did not break loose. All that broke was the bolt and added another scrape to my left arm as it slid against the fan blades when the bolt broke.%) Any help would be appreciated.

I still need to get underneath to disconnected everything else to pull the motor. Hopefully it will be out this Saturday.

Did you ever purchase a Marti for your truck? I'm really curious as to how many '76 Special Decors were made.

Thanks,
Todd Z.

Hi Todd,

No I haven't sent in for a Marti report yet, I really should. I seem to remimber someone else on the forum with a 76 Decor that did post a report. Maybe it was Fosegate150 (he has one just like mine) or rguest3, both with 76's. l guess it's time to do a little digging to find it again. Better yet, I seen away for one of my own.;D

The Marti report will tell you what options your Bronco has and how many had the same trim/paint combos. The Marti report does not say how many Decors there were. I wish it did too.

Thanks for the info. I know the '77 Marti's give that info but Kevin Marti confirmed a day or two ago for me that they haven't done the computer programming required to mine that data for the '76s yet.

Todd,

Did Kevin give any hint that they will work on the programming to get those number? If so, maybe I will wait a little longer for my Martini report.

Thanks,
Fred

I think his response is best summed up as "don't hold your breath". I'd just go ahead and order yours :).

Today I installed the Duff's hood struts, that my daughter gave me for Christmas. I also received yesterday, a set of long tube header care of the Duff's and my son. Another Christmas gift.

Not much else to report on the Bronco. Other than I continue to collect parts for my future 5.0, 4R70w explorer swoop, which needs to happen soon. My C4 is beginning to slip more, and more, every time I take the Bronco for a drive. So the Bronco is safe and sound in the garage waiting for salt free roads and sunshine. We are in a Blizzard warning this afternoon and evening, 5-9"s of snow and ice.%)
